Winter Haven, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team scored 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 22-9 victory over Trinity College (CT). The Roadrunners improve to 6-1 overall while Trinity suffers their first loss of the season, 5-1.
In the top of the first, Ramapo scored two runs when
Scott Peschiani ripped a double to left center plating
Rafael Dela Cruz and
Brandon Berger before they added three runs in the second taking a 5-0 lead.
Bobby Shannon laced a RBI triple plating
Ryan Rinsky before
Joe Venturino knocked in Rinsky with a sac fly.
Trinity got on the board in the bottom of the second with four runs to come within one, 4-5, before Ramapo added three runs in the fourth taking an 8-4 lead. Trinity then scored one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to tie the game at eight before Ramapo scored three runs in the top of the eighth.
With two outs, Dela Cruz singled before Berger was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Venturino then singled before all three runners came around to score on a throwing error to take a 11-8 lead. In the top of the ninth inning, Ramapo scored 11 runs on six hits including a three-run home run from Berger.
Trinity scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning before Ramapo got the final out of the inning and earning the win, 22-9. Trinity, who earned four votes in this weeks D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, snapped a five game win streak with the loss.
Tom Portesy (3-0) earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners. He struck out one while walking one and only gave up one hit in one inning of work. Peschiani collected four hits on six at-bats with three RBI and one run scored while Berger added three RBI on two hits and four runs scored.
Jared Ensmenger and Dela Cruz each collected two hits in the game while Dela Cruz scored three runs.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at 2pm when they take on Western New England University.
