BASEBALL SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

Auburndale, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team fell to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth today, 5-3. The Roadrunners suffered their first loss of the season and now stand at 5-1 overall while UMass Dartmouth improve to 4-1.
 
UMass scored one run in the stop of the first inning before scoring three more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Joe Venturino ripped a home run over the left field wall, his second of the season, putting Ramapo on the board, 1-4.  Dartmouth added an insurance run in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
 
Ramapo added a run in the seventh inning when Bandon Berger scored on a error, he reached on an error earlier in the inning. Ryan Rinsky reached on an error in the eighth inning before being lifted for pinch runner Matt Chemis. Scott Shields singled past the short stop before they each moved up a base on an infield groundout. Chemis later scored on a wild pitch to come within two, 3-5.
 
The Roadrunners could not push another run across in the bottom of the ninth to extend the game falling to UMass Dartmouth, 5-3.
 
David Tarr earned the win for the Corsairs, scattering five hits over 5.2 innings of work including two strikeouts. Matt Cronin earned his first save of the season, working the final 1.1 innings without giving up a hit.
 
John Doherty (0-1) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners, striking out two and walking three over the first 3.1 innings of work. Shields and Venturino each collected two hits apiece
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Trinity College at 3:30pm.
