Sewanee, TN: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team got their first win of the 2015 season today as they defeated Transylvania, 16-9. Behind four goals each from
Lindsay Hughes and
Alyssa Tachon, Ramapo improves to .500 on the year at 1-1.
Tachon and
Katie Duca quickly gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage just over two minutes into the game before Transylvania's Rachel Harrison scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at two-all. Tachon and Hughes put Ramapo up 4-2 before Harrison struck again to close the gap, 4-3, with 14 minutes flat left to go in the half. Hughes would score two unassisted goals before Harrison hit the back of the net on a free position shot to put Transylvania within two, 4-6, but Hughes struck again, this time on a free position shot of her own to put Ramapo ahead three goals, 7-4. Transylvania would score the final goal of the half leaving Ramapo ahead, 7-5 at the halftime buzzer. The Roadrunners out shot Transylvania, 18-8 in the first half as
Jessica Meyers made one save for Ramapo.
In the final half of play, the Roadrunners dominated the opening five plus minutes, scoring six straight goals to jump ahead 13-5. Transylvania would score back-to-back goals but Ramapo's
Beth McGraw and
Carly Corbisiero answered with back-to-back goals for the Roadrunners taking a 15-7 advantage. Transylvania would put away two more goals and Ramapo's
Alison Gacsi would score the final goal of the game for Ramapo giving the Roadrunners the 16-9 non-conference win. The Roadrunners held a slight 16-15 edge in shots in the final half as
Tara Ward took over the goalkeeping duties making nine saves.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at noon when they take on Sewanee, the University of the South.
