Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team dropped a tough, 1-3 (21-25, 25-27, 25-18, 18-25) match-up to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark, before earning a 3-0 (25-0, 25-13, 25-2) sweep over the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence. With the win and loss the Roadrunners stand at 11-12 overall. Rutgers Newark improves to 14-8 overall and Sarah Lawrence remains defeated at 0-10. Ramapo gets a Skyline Conference win for their defeat of Sarah Lawrence to improve to 6-1 and Sarah Lawrence falls to 0-5 in the conference.
In their first match-up, the Roadrunners went down two sets to none, before fighting back to take the third set, and close the gap, 1-2. Rutgers Newark proved to be too much for Ramapo as they took set four to earn the 3-1 victory in the non-conference men's volleyball match-up. Rutgers Newark was led by Jack Fredricks with 19 kills and Cody Chidsey with 13, as the team combined hitting .322 with 56 kills on 118 attempts and 18 errors. Kevin McCandless dished out 45 assists and Corey Pieper picked up a team leading 13 digs. Quocmy Nguyen added 12 digs in the win and Travis Mintzer blocked four balls while Chidsey collected two solo. The team combined for six blocks.
The Roadrunners were led by 17 kills from
Peter Desvousges and 11 from
Ryan Casci. The Roadrunners hit a combined 53-124 with 17 errors hitting .290.
Alec Weissman collected a team leading 45 assists and
Justin Feigeles picked a team leading nine digs.
Kurt MacDonald added eight digs and
Marinus Tavernier led the way with four blocks, one solo.
In the second match of the night, the Roadrunners dominated the match blanking the Gryphons, 3-0. Behind 7 kills from
Matt Goldberg, the Roadrunners hit a combined .647 in the match with 38 total kills. Feigeles, Tavernier and
Spencer Shickora each collected six kills in the game while Shickora led the team with nine aces. MacDonald led the team on defense with seven digs while Weissman dished out a team high 22 assists and posted seven aces.
For Sarah Lawrence, the team hit -.176 with three total kills on 34 attempts and nine errors. Amit Sankaran led the team on defense with four digs.
The Roadrunners return to action on March 21 when they travel to NJCU for a match-up with Sarah Lawrence at 2pm and NJCU at 4pm.
