Mahwah, NJ: The Lady Roadrunner basketball team dropped a tough 63-81 match-up today to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Bradley Center. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 4-18 overall, and have yet to collect a conference win falling to 0-15. The Ospreys improve to 18-4 overall and 14-1 in the conference.
Lea Mendolla put away 17 points including five three-point goals as she led the Ospreys to their 14th win in conference play. Sara Farrell collected 14 points and Sasha Williams pulled down a team leading six rebounds. The Ospreys combined hitting 29-66 (44%) from the field, and drained a total ten long shots in the win. The Ospreys forced 18 Ramapo turnovers, and were out rebounded, 38-40.
Richard Stockton quickly jumped out to a ten-point 15-5 lead with 15:12 on the clock when an and-one play from Williams capped off a 13-2 run. The Ospreys would lead by 13 with 6:17 to play, before a 7-0 run from Ramapo, sparked by
Kerrie Kosakowski at 6:05, would put Ramapo within six, 21-27 with 3:05 to go in the half. Ramapo would trail again by nine points after a three-pointer from Taylor Christina, but the Roadrunners answered back with a 7-2 run to close out the half just four points behind at 30-34. Mendolla led the Ospreys with six points in the half as the team hit a combined 11-33 (33%). Ramapo was led by
Jina Crawford who put away nine points. Ramapo hit 10-26 (39%) from the field.
With the Ospreys leading 36-33 with 19:04 on the clock, Alex Nardoza drained a three-point goal, followed by a jump shot to spark a 10-0 run to jump ahead 46-33 with 17:09 to go. Over the next five minutes, Stockton would climb to a 22-point advantage (61-39), with another three-point goal, this time from Mendolla, and continue for the remainder of the game to stay on top of Ramapo, earning the 81-63 victory. Mendolla led the way with 11 points in the half as the team went 18-33 (55%). Ramapo hit a combined 11-27 (41%) with Crawford leading the way with eight points.
Ramapo was led by Crawford who finished the day with 17 points. She hit 5-11 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
Kellie Lane collected 12 points and
Grace Elliott pulled down a team leading ten boards. The Roadrunners finished the day shooting 39%, hitting 21-53 overall.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 11th when they host the College of New Jersey at 5:30pm.
