LIONS GET PAST RAMAPO, 62-44

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team faced off with the Lions of the College of New Jersey tonight where they posted a 44-62 loss in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Bradley Center.  With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 4-19 overall, 0-16 in the conference, while the Lions jump ahead to 13-10 overall and .500 in the conference at 8-8.
 
TCNJ combined for nine three-point goals in the game as Kelly Coughlin led the way with 13 points, shooting 4-7 from the field.  Jessica Goldbach collected a double-double which included 12 points and ten boards, while Angelica Esposito netted 11 points of her own in the win.  The team combined hitting 23-61 (38%) from the field.  The Lions caused 14 Ramapo turnovers while out rebounding the Roadrunners, 42-35.
 
In the first half, the two teams traded baskets until a 12-12 tie, at which time the Lions began to slowly work to a 32-17 lead at the halftime buzzer.  Kylie O'Donnell drained a three-pointer at 10:18 to jump ahead 17-13, before another long shot from Coughlin with 6:49 to play put the Lions up, 20-15. Goldbach netted a three-point goal of her own at 3:41 to put TCNJ ahead by nine, 25-16 and the Lions finished the remainder of the half outscoring Ramapo, 7-1 to earn the 15-point advantage heading into the locker room.  TCNJ combined hitting 10-29 (35%) in the half, behind 11 points from Coughlin.  The Roadrunners were held to just five field goals with Kerrie Kosakowski and Bintou Berete each collecting four points.
 
Almost halfway through the second half the Lions had worked their way to a 47-28 advantage after a jumper from Jess Lynch at 11:13.  TCNJ continued to drain threes, one coming from Cindy Napolitano with 7:34 to play to go ahead, 52-34. A twenty-point lead came for TCNJ with just over two minutes to play when Nikki Schott nailed a jump shot to push ahead, 60-40.  The Roadrunners closed out the game with baskets from Berete and Stephanie Johnson but it wasn't enough as the Lions defeated Ramapo, 62-44.  Esposito led the Lions with eight second half points as the team combined hitting 13-32 (41%).  Ramapo's Grace Elliott led the way in the final 20 minutes of play with seven points.  The Roadrunners went 11-25 (44%) from the field. 
 
Elliott led the Roadrunners on the night with ten points and Berete added eight, while Kosakowski and Dejha Flood each contributed six points.
 
Prior to the game the senior members of the Ramapo team were honored.  Congratulations and good luck to Kerri Kosakowski, Raven Jones, and Tierney Hendersen.
 
The Roadrunners will play their final two games of the season on the road, the first coming against Rutgers Camden on Saturday, February 14th at 4:00pm.
