LADY ROADRUNNERS FALL TO NJCU IN NJAC ACTION

Jersey City, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team suffered their 12th straight loss tonight as they fell to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 52-60, on the road in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.  With the loss the Roadrunners stand at 4-17 overall and 0-14 in the conference.  The Gothic Knights improve to 8-12 overall and 2-11 in the NJAC.

A19-2 surge from NJCU in the second half secured the game for the Gothic Knights as Bria Smith had a stellar performance recording a double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds.  Jade Medley collected 15 points and Kiana Briggs added 14, as the team shot a combined 17-64 (26%) on the night.  Medley grabbed four steals and multiple Gothic Knights dished out two assists in the win.

It was a dramatic first half as a player from each team was ejected and the two teams traded baskets until a 21-18 score, Ramapo leading, at the halftime buzzer. Grace Elliott led Ramapo with six points in the half as Ramapo combined shooting 8-28 (28%).  The Gothic Knights were led by Smith with nine points and the team went 7-33 (21%).

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 27-21 lead in the second half with a basket from Alyson Oostdyk at 17:40, before NJCU responded with a 6-0 run, capped off with a three-point goal by Briggs at 15:01, which tied the game at 27 all.  The Gothic Knights trailed 27-33 with 13:27 to play, before free throws from Briggs sparked a 19-2 run to put NJCU up 46-35 with 7:45 left to play.  The run was capped off with the front-end of a two shot foul by Briggs.  Ramapo was able to fight back to come within four points, 42-46 with a free throw from Kerrie Kosakowski at 4:57, but it wasn't enough as the Gothic Knights walked away with the eight-point victory on their home court. Medley and Briggs scored 12 points each in the half and Smith finished the half with ten boards and ten points. Jina Crawford led the Roadrunners with ten points in the half.

Crawford led the Roadrunners with 13 points and Kellie Lane added 11, as the team hit a combined 22-61 in the loss.  Grace Elliott recorded two assists and Kosakowski and Lane pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. 

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, February 7th when they host the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College at the Bradley Center at 1pm.
