Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team won a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up tonight to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 67-42, to grab their first win in conference play on the year to jump ahead to 1-3 and 3-6 overall. With the loss NJCU falls to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Lady Roadrunners dominated the New Jersey Athletic Conference game tonight holding the Gothic Knights to just 42 points on the night, just four points in the third quarter, to earn their first NJAC victory of the year and their first NJAC victory in 23 conference games. The Roadrunners shot a combined 27-55 (49%) and were led by
Kellie Lane who put away 19 points hitting 8-14 from the field.Â
Bintou Berete collected 17 points and
Alexandra Seedes added 14, while
Bridgette Buckalew pulled down a team high ten rebounds.Â
The Gothic Knights hit a combined 15-66 (23%) from the field in the loss. The team was led by Megan Semeniak with 12 points and Christine Bizub with nine. Deseree Johnson dished out four assists and grabbed a team high 11 boards.
The Roadrunners led the entire game and came to their biggest lead of 13 points in the first quarter (23-10) when
Alyson Oostdyk put the ball away with five ticks left on the clock. In the second quarter, Ramapo stretched their lead to 19 with just over one minute to play in the half when a basket from Berete put the Roadrunners ahead, 39-20. Ramapo would close out the half with a 39-21 lead over the Gothic Knights.Â
The second half was all Ramapo once again as the team posted their biggest advantage of the game at the 4:13 minute mark in the final quarter when Seedes put away a two-point goal to jump ahead 65-34. The Roadrunners would hang on for the final minutes of play to take the road game by 25, 67-42.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, December 12th when they travel to Rowan University for a 1pm match-up.
