Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up on the road today to the Profs of Rowan University, 51-84. With the loss, Ramapo falls to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Profs jump ahead to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC.
For the Profs, Kaitlin Schullstrom led the way with 20 points while Alex Raring netted ten points of her own coming off the bench. Summer Crilley and Valerie Garofalo each recorded nine points and Melissa Lake added eight points and ten boards as her team shot a combined 30-70 (43%) from the field. Garofalo, Schullstrom and Ashanti Bishop each grabbed four steals in the win as the Profs forced 29 Ramapo turnovers.
For Ramapo,
Kellie Lane collected 16 points and
Alexandra Seedes chipped in with 13 points as Ramapo went 16-51 (31%) in the loss.
Jina Crawford contributed with eight points and
Bintou Berete had nine rebounds on the day.
In the first quarter with the game tied at 6-6, Rowan went on an 11-2 run that included nine points by Schullstrom to take a 17-8 lead with 3:44 on the clock. Ramapo ended the period with a 12-4 run of their own, cutting the deficit to one point (21-20). But in the second quarter, the Profs scored the first 11 points to jump ahead 32-20 at the 6:20 mark. Schullstrom tallied five points, Raring collected four and Lake added two. With Rowan ahead 38-28 with 3:08 to play, consecutive baskets from
Alyson Oostdyk and Lane of Ramapo, trimmed the lead to just six (38-32). But Rowan went into the intermission with a 42-34 advantage over Ramapo.
The Profs tallied nine points to start the third quarter and outscored the Roadrunners 21-8 in the period, before extending their lead to 22 points (61-39) on a long shot by Crilley with 2:24 remaining. The Profs were out in front 63-42 heading into the fourth. Rowan held the lead and extended it to the final margin of 33. The Profs allowed just 17 points in the second half.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 28th when they travel to San Juan Puerto Rico for a 10am match-up with Gustavus Adolphus College.
