Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team opened the 2015-2015 season with a 99-81 victory. The Roadrunners start the season 1-0 overall while the Cardinals even their record at 1-1 overall.
Frank Nock started the scoring in the first half for the Roadrunners with a three-pointer off a pass from
Jermaine Peart (19:13) before York got on the board with a made basket from Taron Pascal to come within one 3-2 (18:41). The Roadrunners pulled away in the half with a 13-0 run to take a 23-7 lead capped off with a jumper from Nock with 11:30 on the clock. Ramapo would extend their lead to 49-23 when
Jermaine Peart nailed a jumper off a dish from Nock with 3:38 left in the first half. Ramapo went into the locker room with a 23-point lead 54-31 as Nock scored the final basket, a two-pointer, with 11 ticks left on the clock. Nock led the team in the half with 14 points and seven rebounds while Peart added 12 points and six rebounds of his own. Ramapo shot 59% (22-37) from the field and 66% in both three-pointers (2-3) and foul shots (8-12).
York started the second half on a mini 7-2 run, cutting the lead to 18 with 18:22 on the clock. Ramapo went on a 9-0 run extending their lead to 69-42 with 14:20 on the clock. The run was capped off with a layup from
Christopher Moseley. The Roadrunners led by at least 21 points in the second half and posted a 30-point lead (87-57) with seven minutes to play.
James Long hit the second shot of a two-shot foul before the Cardinals went on an 8-0 run which included two three-pointers. York scored back-to-back three-pointers by Paramvir Singh and Pascal the second coming with 4:44 left in the game. York cut the lead to 19-points four times down the stretch but the Roadrunners came away with an 18-point victory, 99-81.
Four out of five starters scored in double-figures in the game. Moseley led the team with 19 points while Nock tallied a double double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Peart added 19 points; six rebounds and three assists while
Josh Ford added 17 points. Ford went 11-12 from the foul line in the game.
Nick Stanek recorded nine points and six rebounds.
Saint-Simeon Beaubrun came off the bench and scored ten points and grabbed five rebounds. The Roadrunners shot 51% (34-66) from the field, 42% (3-7) from beyond the three-point line and 71% (28-39) from the foul line. The Ramapo defense caused 11 York turnovers, which resulted in 14 points for the Roadrunners.
Four Cardinals scored in double-figures while they were led by Pascal with 19 points. Rashaan Bailey and Jean Joseph each collected 12 points while Ryan St. John added 11 points of his own. York shot 36% (26-71) from the field, 33% (9-27) from the three-point line and 55% (20-36) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, November 19th when they host Farmingdale State at 7:30pm in a non-conference game.
