Mahwah, NJ: In just their second game of the season, the Ramapo College men's basketball team faced off with the Rams of Farmingdale State where the Roadrunners came out on top 83-81 behind 20 points each from
Frank Nock and
Jermaine Peart. A huge block from
Christopher Moseley with seconds to play ended Farmingdale's chance giving the Roadrunners the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. The Rams fall to 0-2.
It came down to the final seconds of the game with Ramapo leading by two and the ball in Farmingdale's hand. The Rams would charge down the court and get up three attempts, but the final shot was blocked into the bleachers by Moseley giving Ramapo the non-conference win. Nock shot 6-13 from the field and 4-9 from three-point range while Peart went 8-11. The Roadrunners shot a combined 30-59 (51%) as Farmingdale hit 28-73 (38%). Moseley finished the night with a double-double including 16 points and ten rebounds and
Josh Ford dished out six assists. Moseley contributed seven assists and four blocks in the win. For the Rams, Eddie Kinloch recorded a team leading 17 points hitting 5-9 from the field and 7-8 from the charity stripe, while Liam Monaghan chipped in 13 points of his own. Monaghan contributed four assists and Kinloch grabbed four steals in the loss.
At the half the Roadrunners held a slight, 42-41 edge after Nock drained 15 points hitting 5-9 from the floor including 3-6 from three-point range. The Roadrunners jumped out to a quick 11-point lead at 16:30 when Nock drained his first long shot of the half. Ramapo would continue to climb until 12:07 when a jump shot from Nock would put the team up 21-8. From there, Trey Kinard sparked a 16-5 run to put the Rams within two points, 24-26 with just 7:45 to play in the half. The run was capped off by a layup from Weldon Irvine. The Roadrunners quickly responded with a 10-3 run of their own to jump ahead 36-27 but the Rams fought back to tie the game 36-36 with 2:33 to play. A three-pointer from Matthew Graham would knot the game. The teams traded baskets in the remainder of the half to close out the first period with Ramapo on top, 42-41. The Roadrunners shot 16-32 (50%) as a team while the Rams went 15-38 (40%). Peart chipped in seven points and Ford dished out five assists. Kinloch led Farmingdale with eight points and Monaghan contributed three assists.
At the start of the second half the Rams took their first lead of the game with a basket from Kinloch before Ramapo went up by four with baskets from Ford and Peart. Over the next five minutes the two teams traded baskets, but with 13:07 to play, Kinard drained a jump shot to put the Rams up 55-50. At the 11:02 minute mark, a three-point goal from Jarred Marrow gave Farmingdale a seven-point, 60-53 lead and another three-point goal, this time from Kinard at 9:29, kept the Rams on top, 63-57. With Farmingdale leading 68-61, Peart sparked an 8-1 run, capped off by a three-point goal from Nock to tie the game at 69 with 5:51 to play. Over the final minutes of the game, the lead changed four times coming to an 80-80 tie after two free throws from Moseley with just 33 seconds to play. Farmingdale took an 81-80 lead hitting the front end of a two shot foul, and Peart put the Roadrunners on top, 83-81 with an and-one play with 16 seconds on the clock. Farmingdale got up three shots in the final seconds, the final one blocked into the bleachers by Moseley to end the game with Ramapo on top, 83-81. Peart led in the half with 13 points and Moseley contributed ten. Ramapo shot 14-27 (51%) and Farmingdale hit 13-35 (37%).
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, November 20th when they host the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament featuring Ramapo verse Purchase College at 5:30pm, followed by Johnson & Wales and Eastern Connecticut at 7:30pm. The two winning teams advance to the championship game on Sunday at 3pm while the consolation match-up commences at 1pm.
