Hackettstown, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell short to Centenary College tonight in their 2015-2016 season opener on the road, 54-75. Ramapo opens the year at 0-1 overall while Centenary collects their first win of the season.
After the first quarter and the two teams tied at 15, Centenary put together a 21-11 offensive spark in the second quarter (21-11) to take a 36-26 halftime lead over the Roadrunners. Centenary continued to out shoot Ramapo adding 39 points to Ramapo's 28 in the final half to take the game 75-54.
Ramapo was led by
Grace Elliott and Kelli Lane who each collected 12 points as they shot 2-5 and 4-10 from the field respectively.
Bintou Berete chipped in eight points as the team shot a combined 19-52 (37%) from the field. Lane,
Jina Crawford and
Shelby Ringer each dished out three assists while
Alyson Oostdyk pulled down a team high ten rebounds. Elliott grabbed six rebounds of her own in the loss.
Mallory George led Centenary with 19 points and Rachel Edwards added 12 while George led the way in assists with seven and rebounds with 14. The team shot 27-68 (40%) in the win.
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday, November 15th when they host King's College (PA) at 1pm.
