Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped their 2015-2016 home opener to King's College (PA) 56-38 today at the Bradley Center. The Monarchs begin the season 1-0 overall while the Roadrunners drop to 0-2.
King's started the scoring in the first quarter with a three-pointer from Kasey Seitz, one of their ten made three-point baskets in the game, before Ramapo got on the board with a made jumper from
Jina Crawford.
Grace Elliott scored a layup to take a one point lead, 4-3, with 7:17 on the clock before the Monarchs hit their second three-pointer to regain the lead. Another jumper from Elliott (5:50) tied the game at eight apiece before Jennifer Fabian put the Monarchs ahead for good with a three-pointer of her own to pull ahead 11-8 with 4:27 left to play in the first quarter.
Heading into the second quarter King's led 13-8 where they would outscore the Roadrunners 10-7 heading into halftime. The Monarchs held their biggest lead of the first half with 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter 23-12 before
Doris Ilic sank a three-pointer with 12 seconds togo to come within eight, 15-23.
Ramapo came back to out score King's 17-12 in the third period and cut their overall lead to three heading into the fourth quarter. The Roadrunners went on a 15-1 run over the final five minutes in the third quarter.
Tia Solomon started the run by converting on one of two foul shots (18-34) before
Shelby Ringer cut the lead to eight (27-35) with a three-pointer with 1:29 on the clock. Elliott scored a jumper in the paint before Ilic nailed her second three-pointer off a pass from Ringer with 25 seconds on the clock to come within three (32-35).
In the fourth quarter King's outscored the Roadrunners 21-6 to pull away with a 56-38 road victory. The Monarchs saw three players score in double figures as they were led by Jennifer Fabian with 12 points and ten rebounds. Kayla Feairheller and Seitz scored 19 and 13 points respectively. The Monarchs shot 33% (19-56) from the field in the game while they shot 50% (8-16) from the foul line and 32% (10-31) from the three-point line.
Ramapo was led by Elliott with 12 points and nine rebounds while
Kellie Lane pulled down 12 rebounds and tallied four points. Ilic and Crawford each added six points while
Bintou Berete grabbed seven rebounds and scored four points. The Roadrunners shot 25% (16-63) from the field in the game while they only took five trips to the foul line. They shot 60% (3-5) from the foul line and 21% (3-14) from the three-point line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, November 20th when they host the Roadrunner Tip Off Tournament. Ramapo will take on Penn State-Harrisburg at 7:30pm while Old Westbury takes on the College of Saint Elizabeth at 5:30pm.
