Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team dropped a tough, 4-2 decision today to the Lions of the College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up in Mahwah. With the loss Ramapo falls to 7-7-2 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play. The Lions improve to 8-4-2 overall and get their second win in conference play at 2-4.
Ramapo went on top in the 24th minute with a goal from
Justin Olaya off an assist from
Leandro Gonzales before the Lions tied up the game at 34:15 with a goal from Greg Kaye. The goal was his second of the year and he was assisted by Thomas Hogue. The score remained tied at 1-1 heading into halftime where TCNJ held a 10-5 advantage in shots.
Ryan Sprague made five saves in the first half for Ramapo and Jake Nesterukl was tested on two occasions in the first half of play for the Lions.
The Lions struck immediately at the start of second half as Nick Costelloe took a pass from Hogue at 46:35 to go up, 2-1. Ramapo knotted the game at 2-2 with a capitalized penalty kick by
Jorge Castro at 67:07 and Sean Etheridge scored what turned out to be the game winner at 78:38 giving the Lions a 3-2 edge. Costelleo added insurance with an unassisted goal at 82:47 ending with the Lions on top, 4-2. TCNJ edged Ramapo again in shots, 12-7 in the second half and Sprague collected five more saves in the final period. Nesterukl finished with an additional two saves.
TCNJ held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks and in shots at 22-12 for the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, October 20th when they travel to Western Connecticut for a 7pm match-up on the road.
