Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team dominated their first match of the 2015 season, defeating the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-9). The team then faced the Beavers of City College of New York where they posted another 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-7) sweep to open the season at 2-0 overall.
In Ramapo's first match-up with CSI, rookie
Marinus Tavernier led the Roadrunners hitting .818 in the win with nine kills and no errors on 11 attempts.
Garrett Fitzsimmons picked up six kills and
Justin Feigeles and
Matt Goldberg each added five. The team combined hitting .475 with 37 kills on 61 attempts with just eight errors. Fitzsimmons dished-out a team-high 17 assists and Feigeles added 13, while
Peter Desvousges picked up a team leading four digs on defense.
Evan Carey put away four assisted blocks in the win. CSI was led by Justin Edwardsen's three kills as the team went 6-47 with 12 errors hitting -.128. Brandon Lei dished out four assists and Song Shin Low picked up five digs.
In the second match-up of the day, CCNY defeated the College of Staten Island, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-15), behind 17 kills from Anthony Reyes. Reyes hit .324 with five errors on 37 attempts. Austin Mendoza and Leonel Pascual collected seven kills each as the team went 37-98 with 15 errors hitting .224. Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 31 assists and Reyes led the defense with 12 digs. Brian Sheydvasser led CSI with six kills and Lei dished out 15 assists, as the team hit 17-73 with 16 errors hitting .014. Low led the team's defense with 13 digs as they opened the 2015 season standing at 0-2 overall.
In their final match-up of the day, the Roadrunners were led by Feigeles and Tavernier who both put away seven kills.
Jake Matreale added six as the team went 40-67 with nine errors hitting .463. Feigeles and
Garrett Fitzsimmons each dished out 15 assists and Feigeles and Goldberg each picked up five digs. Pascual led CCNY with four kills as the team hit -.103 with 11 kills and 17 errors on 58 attempts. Boychuk dished out seven assists and Reyes recorded a team leading four digs on defense.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 31st when they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 1pm match-up.
