HAWKS GET PAST RAMAPO, 47-36

Mahwah, NJ:  The Lady Roadrunner basketball team played host to non-conference rival, Hunter College tonight at the Bradley Center where they posted a 36-47 loss to fall to 4-12 overall on the year.  With the win the Hawks improve to 6-11.

Kristen Markoe led Hunter with a double-double that included 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Ayanna Hudson added 16 points of her own in the win.  The team hit 18-53 (34%) in the win.  Markoe grabbed four steals and Ashley Yu dished out a team high three assists on the night.

The Roadrunners fell behind by 11 points (1-12) to start the game, before Kellie Lane sparked a 6-0 run at 13:03, capped with a three-pointer from Kerrie Kosakowski, to come within five, 7-12.  Hunter would work their way back to a nine-point, 16-7 advantage with an and-one play from Hudson, until a 5-0 run from Ramapo put the Roadrunners within four, 12-16, with two free throws from Bintou Berete at 3:33.  The Hawks closed out the half with a five-point, 19-14 lead over Ramapo, behind a ten-point shooting performance from Hudson.  The team hit 7-26 (27%) from the field, and forced 14 Ramapo turnovers.  The Roadrunners finished the half with just four field goals on 18 attempts, shooting 22%.  Lane led Ramapo with five points.

In the second half of play, Yu hit a long shot to put the Hawks up 30-19 with 11:23 on the clock, before the Roadrunners went down a 10-2 run to come within three points, 29-32 with 6:45 left to play.  The run was sparked by a jump shot from Grace Elliot, and capped off with two free throws from Lane.  Over the next three minutes the two teams traded baskets until 3:41, when a basket from Markoe, sparked a mini 5-0 run to put the Hawks up by double-digit figures once again, 43-33, forcing a Ramapo timeout with 2:34 to go.  Ramapo came out of the timeout connecting three points to close the gap, 36-43, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks defeated the Roadrunners 47-36.  The Hawks hit a combined 11-27 (41%) in the half behind 14 points from Markoe.  Ramapo was led by Elliot with eight points as they shot 8-32 (25%) form the field.
