Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team defeated NJAC conference rival William Paterson University today, 1-0. The Roadrunners now stand at, 2-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC while the Pioneers now stand at 3-3-3 overall, 1-1 in the conference.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Ramapo posted a 7-4 advantage in shots in the half while each team recorded three corner kicks.
In the second half, both teams had chances to score, Ramapo hitting the cross bar twice down the stretch. Junior
Nicole Ninomiya collected a ball at the top of the box that was misplayed by the WPU defense and shot it past the keeper for the game winning goal in the 86th minute of the game. This was Ninomiya's team leading sixth goal of the season.
The Ramapo defense held on in the final four minutes of play, coming away with the 1-0 shutout win. Ramapo held an 18-10 advantage in shots in the game and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Rookie
Jessica Cusick posted five saves in the goal for the Roadrunners while Angela Sandelli collected five saves for the Pioneers.
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark on October 1st for a 7:30pm game.
