#3 MONTCLAIR SOFTBALL SWEEPS RAMAPO

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Montclair, NJ:  Dana Amato drove in the winning run in the 8th inning of game one, and Alex Hill drove in the game winner in game two, as the #3 Red Hawks of Montclair State earned the double header sweep over the Ramapo College softball team today.  The Red Hawks defeated Ramapo 1-0 (8) in game one, before posting a 5-1 victory in game two, to improve to 23-1 overall, and 8-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Ramapo falls to 9-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
 
Game 1:  The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 8th inning, when Alisha Cumberton crossed home plate on a hard hit double up the middle by Amato.  The run gave the Red Hawks the win over Ramapo as Hill pitched the complete game, improving to 16-1 overall on the year.  Hill struck out 17 and walked none, while holding Ramapo to just three hits on the day.  Cumberton went 2-4 and scored the run, while Tara Petrucelli and Brianna Davidson hit 2-3 in the win.
 
Ramapo's Harley Masiello gets the loss, falling to 4-7 on the year.  She struck out five and walked just one, letting up nine hits in the loss.  Kim LaPenta, Melanie Walling, and Taylor May each recorded a hit for the Roadrunners. 
 
Game 2:  Montclair took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, and Ramapo scored one in the 3rd, but it wasn't enough as the Red Hawks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 5th to earn the 5-1 win over the Roadrunners. 
 
In the 1st, Hill ripped a triple down the right field line that drove in Cumberton and Amato, who both singled earlier in the inning to get on base.  Hill later scored on a double from Davidson to take the three run advantage. 
 
With two outs, May crossed home plate on a RBI single from Danielle Saporito, scoring the lone run for the Roadrunners in the game.  Montclair responded with two more runs again from Amato and Hill to walk away with the four-run conference victory.
 
Alison Cullen earned the win to improve to 7-0 on the year.  She struck out four and walked just one, while letting up three Ramapo hits.  Amato and Hill each went 2-3 with two runs and two runs and two RBI respectively.  Cumberton hit 1-3 with a run, and Davidson hit a perfect 3-3.  She drove in two runs in the win.
 
Nicole Schneider gets the loss for Ramapo to fall to 4-3.  She struck out three and walked none, while letting up nine hits and five earned runs.  LaPenta, Saporito, and Jaclyn Lima each drove a hit for Ramapo.
 
The Roadrunners will return to action on Thursday, April 10th, when they host Mt. St. Mary at 3pm at the Athletic Center.
