RAMAPO SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH WILLIAM PATERSON

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  Nicole Hernandez posted the game winning hit and Erin Witherspoon scored the game winning run for Ramapo in the opening game of a double-header NJAC softball match-up with William Paterson.  It was Katelyn Miele who scored the winner in game two, leading the Pioneers to a 3-0 win.  With the New Jersey Athletic Conference split, Ramapo stands at 9-10 overall, 3-3 in the conference, while William Paterson jumps to 15-5 overall, and gets their first NJAC loss of the season falling to 5-1.

Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning, when Witherspoon ripped an infield single with one out, and later came home on an RBI single to centerfield from Hernandez, to put Ramapo ahead 1-0.

Senior pitcher Harley Masiello, who let up just four hits on the day, gave up one hit in the top of the 7th, but held the Pioneers to no runs, earning her third shutout of the year.  She pitched her eighth complete game, improving to 4-6 on the year.  Masiello struck out five in the win and walked just one.

Hernandez hit 2-3 with one RBI, while Witherspoon scored the game winning run going 1-3 on the day.  Kim LaPenta collected a hit on three at bats and Mikayla Melendez and Masiello went 1-2.

Nicole Fryer, Miele, Gabrielle Castelli, and Kelsey Principe each earned a hit for the Pioneers.  Castelli gets the loss letting up the four hits in the complete game.  This is her first loss of the season as she struck out three and walked none.

In game two, the game again went scoreless until the 6th inning when the Pioneers got their bats going, getting three runs across the plate on two hits and one Ramapo error.  Miele led off the inning drawing a walk, before Kristen Gardner drove a double to deep left field, allowing Miele to touch third base.  It was a Ramapo error in the outfield that crossed Miele, which turned out to be the game winning run.  Later in the inning, Kim Fryer singled through the left side scoring Kelsey Wimmershoff and Laura Henriquez.  Wimmershoff reached on an error to touch first base and Henriquez pinch ran for Gardner.
