SOFTBALL GETS NJCU, 6-3, IN EXTRA INNINGS

Box Score Jersey City, NJ:  Three runs in the 8th inning propelled the Roadrunners past the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference softball match-up.  The first of the double-header was played on Tuesday afternoon, where Ramapo came out on top, 6-3, but due to rain, the second game was pushed to today, where again the Roadrunners surpassed the Gothic Knights, taking home the 6-3 conference win on the road.  Ramapo jumps ahead to 18-15 overall, and .500 in the conference at 8-8, while NJCU falls to 5-29 overall and 1-15 in the conference.

After a tie game, 3-3, after seven regulation innings, Ramapo's Melissa Moreno was placed on second base adhering to international tiebreaker rules.  Moreno would cross home plate as Kim LaPenta reached on a fielding error, before Mikayla Melendez doubled down the left field line, driving in LaPenta and Taylor Boffalo to take a 6-3 edge over NJCU.  Boffalo would reach on a throwing error earlier in the inning to touch first.  Ramapo's Nicole Schneider held the Gothic Knights in the bottom of the 8th, giving Ramapo the win on the road.

LaPenta went 2-5 with two runs scored and Melendez hit 2-5, driving in two runs, while Boffalo hit 1-2 and scored two on the day.  Moreno wrapped up the win going 1-3 with a run scored.  Schneider improves to 9-5 on the year.  She pitched the complete game, striking out three.

NJCU's Marissa Bariso led the team hitting 3-4 with one run scored.  Ashley Latushko gets the loss falling to 4-15 on the year.  She struck out one and walked three in the complete game.

The Gothic Knights got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning when Casey Perez scored, after reaching first base on a throwing error to lead off the inning.  The Gothic Knights went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd with runs from Bariso and Maxine Kaminski, before Ramapo was able to close the gap with runs coming in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings.  In the 4th, Melanie Walling scored on an error, after ripping a single to lead off the inning, and LaPenta led off the 5th with a single of her own, before crossing home plate on a bunt from Nicole Hernandez.  It was Boffalo's run in the 6th, that came on another error, that tied the game up, eventually forcing extra innings.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 26th, when they travel to Kean University for a 1pm double header match-up, the final match-up of regular play.
