Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team split their NJAC doubleheader today against Richard Stockton College at the Athletic Center. The Ospreys took game one, 1-0, before the Roadrunners scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take game two, 4-3.
With the split the Roadrunners now stand at 14-15 overall, 6-8 in the NJAC while the Ospreys fall to 19-11 overall and 7-7 in the conference.
In game one, Stockton starting pitcher, Michelle Pietrocola (11-5) fired a two-hit shutout for her 11th win of the season. She struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.
Stockton scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning. Danielle Kohen led off with a double before she moved to third on a sac bunt. Rachel Forte then plated Kohen with a sac fly to right field for the game's only run, 1-0.
The Roadrunners would get a lead-off double from
Nicole Hernandez in the bottom of the sixth inning but Pietracola would strike out two and induce an infield pop up to end the threat.
Nicole Schneider (6-5) took the loss in relief. She worked the final 3.1 innings.
Harley Masiello started the game and scattered two hits over the first 3.2 innings.
In game two, the Roadrunners jumped out to a, 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Melanie Walling ripped a triple down the right field line and eventually scored when the throw from the outfield sailed wide of third base to take a, 1-0 lead.
Danielle Saporito then beat out a bunt single before
Erin Witherspoon was hit by a pitch. They both moved up on an infield ground out before
Melissa Moreno picked up an RBI on a sac bunt, allowing Saporito to touch home plate, 2-0. Witherspoon later came home on a wild pitch for the, 3-0 lead.
Stockton came back with two runs in the top of the third inning to come within one, 2-3. Nicole Chabak doubled home Nicole Tomo before Dominique Dorris singled, bringing home Gianna Cuffari.
Neither team could score until the top of the seventh inning, as the Osprey's pushed one run across to tie the game at three. In the top of the eighth inning, Nicole Scanlon started on second base for the Ospreys before she advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following one out and the Ramapo infield drawn in, Forte hit a bouncing ground ball to Ramapo shortstop
Nicole Hernandez. Scanlon broke for home while Hernandez threw right to catcher Moreno who applied the tag for the second out of the inning. Schneider would induce a ground out to end the inning. In the bottom half of the eighth,
Jaclyn Lima would start on second base for the Roadrunners.
Kim LaPenta moved her to third with a sac bunt before Melendez put down a perfect squeeze bunt as Lima slide around the tag of the Stockton catcher for the game winning run, 4-3.
Schneider (7-5) earned the complete game win for the Roadrunners. She struck out one and walked two while scattering nine hits. Lima, Walling, Saporito and Witherspoon each collected a hit for Ramapo.
Brittany Ksiezopolski worked the first 2.1 innings for the Ospreys, surrendering four hits. Pietrocola (11-6) took the tough loss in relief. She struck out nine in 5.0 innings of work and did not surrender a hit. Nicole Tomo led the way for the Ospreys, she finished the game going 4-5 with two runs scored.
