SOFTBALL GOES 1-1 ON THE DAY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Winter Garden, FL:  The Lady Roadrunners posted a tough 1-3 loss to Keene State this morning, before earning a 7-3 victory over Plymouth State, in non-conference softball action in Winter Garden, Florida.  With the win and the loss, the Roadrunners stand at 3-6 overall at the start of the 2014 season.

Ramapo was held to five hits in the opening game verse Keene State, where Melanie Walling went 2-3, scoring the lone run for the Roadrunners.  Nicole Hernandez drove Walling in in the 4th inning, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage.  But Keene State proved to be too much as they collected all three of their runs, and all five of their hits, in the 6th inning, taking home the two-run win.

Hernandez hit 1-2 in the loss and Kim LaPenta hit 1-4.  Harley Masiello pitched the complete game and gets the loss (1-5) after letting up five hits and three runs.  She struck out four and walked one on the day.

In Ramapo's second match-up of the day verse Plymouth State, LaPenta collected a team high three RBI, as she drove in two runs in the 2nd, the later of the two turning out to be the game winner.  The Roadrunners had a 7-0 lead after six and a half innings of play, with Jaclyn Lima (2), LaPenta, Hannah Mucerino, Melissa Moreno (2), and Brianna Dziedzic, each crossing home plate.  Plymouth's last opportunity came in the bottom half of the 7th inning, after two hits and two Ramapo errors put three runs on the scoreboard.  But it wasn't enough as Ramapo's Nicole Schneider got out of the inning, pitching the complete game, holding onto the four-run victory.

Schneider let up five hits and three runs, all unearned, as she struck out three and walked none in the win.

Lima hit 1-2 with two runs and LaPenta went 1-3 with one run and three RBI, while Moreno and Mucerino collected two and one hit respectively, with one run each.  Moreno tallied one RBI on the day.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow, March 21st, when they take on University of Dubuque and Manchester University at 11am and 1pm respectively, wrapping up the 2014 NTC Spring Games.
