MASIELLO FIRES NO-HITTER IN 9-0 WIN

Box Score Clermont, FL:  Senior pitcher Harley Masiello fired a five inning no-hitter as the Ramapo College softball team blanked Utica College tonight, 9-0.

The Roadrunners improve to 2-3 overall while Utica falls to 0-3.

Ramapo belted out five doubles in the game on their ten hits. Masiello helped her own cause in the top of the second inning driving home the eventual game winning run. Following an out, junior Kim LaPenta singled and came around to score on Masiello's RBI double down the left field line for a 1-0 lead.

Masiello worked hard for her win, in the top of the second inning she worked out of a one-out bases loaded jam. With the infield drawn in rookie shortstop Nicole Hernandez fielded a ball and fired home for the second out before Masiello recorded a strike out for the final out of the inning.

Ramapo added eight runs in the top of the fourth inning on seven hits. Sophomore Mikayla Melendez ripped a double to lead off the inning before sophomore Erin Witherspoon was hit by a pitch. LaPenta's then laid down a bunt and the Utica defense tried to get the force out at third base but Melendez's slide into third beat the throw. Masiello hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Melendez before the sophomores Melissa Moreno and Melanie Walling ripped back-to-back doubles, combining for three RBI. Sophomore Danielle Saporito then smacked a double of her own to deep left field, scoring junior Jaclyn Lima and Moreno. Saporito then scored on Melendez's single up the middle. The Utica pitcher was then called for an illegal pitch allowing Meledez to score from third base and Witherspoon to move to second.

Masiello and the Ramapo defense held Utica scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, coming away with the 9-0 win. Masiello earned her first win of the season, she struck out five and walked three.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow morning at 9am against Fontbonne University and 1pm against Bethel College at Legends Way Field.
