Box Score Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough, 62-68 decision today to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up on the road. Despite a powerful performance from senior
Micaela Moore, the Roadrunners fall to 12-12 overall on the year, 9-8 in the conference.
Moore led the Roadrunners today collecting 24 points, shooting 10-17, and 19 rebounds, as the team went 23-51 (45%), in a tough conference loss.
Jackie Jerkovich netted 14 points and
Anna Fucci and
Bintou Berete each added eight, while
Kelly Haspel dished out a team high five assists. Moore put away five blocks on the day.
For the Ospreys, (11-13, 8-9) Cara Parliament recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Sara Farrell netted 24 points and Alex Nardoza collected 11 points, as the team shot a combined 24-60 (40%) in the win. Nardoza dished out six assists while Farrell put down three blocks.
The Roadrunners led for most of the first half of play after opening the game with two good baskets from Moore. With 6:57 on the clock, Fucci gave the Roadrunners their biggest advantage of the half when she drained a three-point goal to go ahead, 30-23. The Ospreys spent the remainder of the half slowly chipping away at Ramapo's lead, and after a two point goal from Nordoza with six ticks left on the clock, the two teams headed into the locker room just parted by three points, Ramapo on top, 39-36. Moore collected 13 points as Ramapo hit 15-25 (60%), ahead of Stockton's 13-29 (49%). Farrell collected 19 points in the half for the Ospreys.
In the second half of play, the Roadrunners worked to a ten-point, 48-38 lead with 15:07 on the clock, before Farrell drained a three-pointer to spark an 8-0 run to come within just two points, 46-48 with 12:47 to play. Francesca Gervato tied the game at 52-52 four minutes later, and Lauren Alwan gave Stockton the lead at 7:13, with a two-point basket. The Ospreys spent the remainder of the game working to a seven-point edge at 3:52, and again at 2:10, and held on until the final buzzer, earning the 68-62 NJAC win. Moore added 14 points to the second half hitting 4-9 from the field, half of Ramapo's total baskets for the half, 8-26 (31%). Parliament led the Ospreys with 12 points and 13 rebounds. The team hit 11-31 (36%).
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 19th when they host William Paterson at 5:30pm. Ramapo will honor their seniors prior to the tip-off.
