RAMAPO DOWNS RUTGERS NEWARK

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Roadrunners took control of the game less than five minutes into the New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up with Rutgers Newark, as they improved to 9-7 in the league, with a 74-47 victory at the Bradley Center.  Ramapo gets their 12th win overall on the year improving to 12-11, while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 9-13, and 5-11 in the conference.

Behind a double-double from senior Micaela Moore, which included 25 points and 15 rebounds, the Roadrunners went on to earn the 2013-2014 sweep of the Scarlet Raiders.  Moore shot a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe as Ramapo shot 24-52 (46%) as a team.  Ramapo out rebounded Rutgers Newark 49-40.  Jackie Jerkovich and Anna Fucci each collected 11 points on the night, while Fucci dished out a team high five assists. 

Jade Howard got the Scarlet Raiders on the scoreboard at the start of the game to put Rutgers Newark ahead, 2-0, but it was short lived as Kerri Kosakowski put away two free throws and Jerkovich drained a three-point goal, to put the Roadrunners ahead, 5-2.  Rutgers Newark took the lead for one final time with baskets from Jasmine Daniels, Courtney Woodard, and Howard, until a three-point basket from Fucci sparked an 11-0 run, to put the Roadrunners on top, 16-7 with 13:08 on the clock.  Ramapo spent the remainder of the half climbing to a double-digit lead, their biggest coming with 8:50 to play, when a jump shot from Kellie Lane put the Roadrunners up, 25-11.  Ramapo held onto their advantage until the halftime buzzer, heading into the locker room 13 points ahead of the Scarlet Raiders, 37-24.  Fucci led all scorers with ten points as Ramapo went 12-24 (50%) as a team.  Howard led Rutgers Newark with nine first half points.

In the opening three minutes of the second half, Woodard laid the ball in to cut Ramapo's lead to eight, 32-40, but Ramapo quickly responded with a 16-0 run to jump ahead 56-32 with 11:38 to play.  The run was capped off with a jump shot from Kosakowski.  The final minutes of the game were controlled by the Roadrunners, as they climbed to their biggest lead of the game at the buzzer, 27, defeating the Scarlet Raiders, 74-47.  Moore collected 18 points in the second half hitting 5-9 from the field and 8-8 from the free throw line, as the team shot a combined 12-28 (43%).  Shala Glenn led Rutgers Newark with eight second half points.  The team hit 10-41 (24%) from the field. 

Howard finished on top of all Scarlet Raiders with 12 points and Daniels added nine, as the team hit 18-72 (25%) in the loss.  Howard led the team pulling down nine rebounds and Glenn dished out three assists.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, February 15th when they travel to Richard Stockton for a 1pm tip.
