ROADRUNNERS DEFEAT TCNJ, 89-73

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team earned an 89-73 victory over the Lions of The College of New Jersey today at the Bradley Center, behind 17 points each from Jermaine Emanuel and Elvonney Poole.  Ramapo improves to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Lions fall to 7-14, 5-9 in the conference.

Emanuel and Poole each nailed down six field goals as the team combined hitting 29-63 (46%).  Terry Hicks sank 16 points and Frank Nock contributed 15, while hitting a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe.  Nock and Tyler Barnes both led the team with eight rebounds and Nock dished out a team high five assists.  

Ramapo got an early lead on TCNJ, jumping ahead by 14 under six minutes into the game.  Two free throws from Terry Hicks started the game, and two from Frank Nock put the Roadrunners ahead, 17-3.  With 13:50 on the clock, Jayson Johnson nailed a two-point goal that sparked a 14-0 TCNJ run, which was capped off with a layup from Johnson, to tie the game at 17.  Just under two minutes later, the Lions took their first lead of the game as Jason Chalmers put away a jump shot to go up, 21-19.  The Lions held a slight advantage until the 6:02 minute mark when Poole sank two, to put Ramapo on top once again, 28-27.  Ramapo connected eight points to go ahead, 36-27, before Joe Kane nailed down the front end of a two-shot foul, sparking a mini 4-0 Lion run.  The run was capped by a three-pointer from Eric Klacik at 1:35, to close the gap, 31-36.  In the remaining minute, Ramapo worked to another eight-point lead to head into the locker room on top of the Lions, 41-33.  Hicks and Poole led all Roadrunners with eight points each, as the team combined hitting 13-34 (38%) from the field.  The Lions went 12-31 (39%) with Johnson leading the way with nine points. 

Emanuel opened the second half for the Roadrunners nailing down a three-point goal, and Poole and George Sapp followed with baskets of their own to give Ramapo a 15-point, 48-33 advantage, just under two minutes in.  The Lions would come within 12 at 15:41 with two free throws from Darius Griffin Jr., before Ramapo climbed to an 18-point spread at 14:06, as Emanuel drained a two-point goal.  The two teams traded baskets over the next 12 minutes until Alex Cirlincione drained a three-point basket with 2:01 left in the game to come within 13, 69-82.  The Roadrunners held on for the final minutes to take home the NJAC win, 89-73.  Emanuel sank 12 second half points and Nock and Poole each added nine, while the team shot 16-29 (55%) from the field.  The Lions shot a combined 13-30 (43%) behind 12 points from Johnson.

Johnson led all Lions with 21 points and Bobby Brackett collected 17, while completing the double-double with 14 rebounds.  The team shot 25-61 (41%) in the loss.

The Roadrunners take on Montclair State on Wednesday, February 5th, when they return to action at 8pm in Montclair.
