Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated non-conference rival Medgar Evers College this afternoon, 89-74. The Roadrunners improve to 5-2 overall while the Cougars drop to 1-6 overall.
In the first half, Ramapo led by eight, 14-6, with a jumper from Tom Bonacum with 12:50 on the clock off a dish from
Josh Ford. Medgar Evers came within five, 10-15, on a made basket from Valin Williams before Ramapo took a fourteen point lead, 31-17 with 7:11 left to play in the half. The Cougars went on a six-point run to come within eight, 23-31 with just over five minutes left in the half. Moseley scored the next two baskets for the Roadrunners, a jumper and three-pointer, to take a 36-23 lead with 4:11 on the clock. The Cougars when on an 11-3 run to come within five, 34-39. Nock sunk two free throws with 53 seconds left in the half and Aker-Mark Bayley-Hay scored the final basket for Medgar Evers, 36-41, before Ford sunk a three-pointer with nine seconds left off a pass from
James Long allowing the Roadrunners to go into the locker room up eight, 44-36.
Ramapo doubled their lead to 16 points in the first two minutes of the second half, 53-37 when Long scored a three-pointer off a pass from Nock before Polite put the Roadrunners up by 20 with a jumper, 61-41 with 15:50 on the clock. The Cougars then went on a 10-0 run capped off by jumper from Williams, 51-61, with 12:55 to go in the game forcing the Roadrunners to take a timeout. The two teams traded baskets before Reynaldo Eloy sank a three for Medgar Evers to come within seven, 61-68, with 9:15 left to play. Moseley started a mini 5-0 run the Roadrunners capped off with a made free throw from Nock (5:14), 79-66. Polite and Nock scored back to back shots for the Roadrunners between a pair of free throws from the Cougars as Ramapo led by 14, 83-69 with 3:01 on the clock. Long sank two free throws (1:39) and he hit another with just under a minute to play to take a 16 point lead, 87-71. Pablo Segura scored the final points of the game for the Cougars with a three with 44 seconds on the clock before Polite sank two free throws to cap the 15 point victory for the Roadrunners with 33 seconds on the clock, 89-74.
The Roadrunners were led by Polite with 26 points and seven rebounds. Two other players from the team scored in double figures, Nock scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out six assists and Moseley pulled down nine rebounds and 14 points. The Roadrunners shot 48% (31-64) from the field in the game and 66% (22-33) from the free throw line. The out rebounded Medgar Evers, 51-33 and caused 15 Cougar turnovers.
Four players scored in double figures for Medgar Evers, they were led by Matt Walker who scored 19 points while Eloy added 15 of his own. Segura and Williams each tallied 13 points while Williams posted a double-double with 13 rebounds.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University on December 10th at 7:30pm.
