Montclair, NJ: Seven Roadrunners scored in double-digit figures as the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated the Red Hawks of Montclair State University, 94-83, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up on the road. With the 11-point win, Ramapo improves to 4-2 overall on the year and 2-2 in the conference. Montclair falls to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Rookie
Christopher Moseley led the Roadrunners with 19 points shooting 7-12 from the field, including three shots from behind the arc, while
Frank Nock and
James Long each collected 14 points apiece.
Ve'Shawn Polite recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while
Thomas Bonacum collected a double-double of his own with 11 points and 11 boards.
Josh Ford and
Jermaine Peart rounded out Ramapo's top scorers of the day netting 11 points each, as the team shot a combined 32-71 (45%) in the win. Long dished out a team leading three assists as the team out rebounded the Red Hawks, 54-32, 18-8 on offense.
Ramapo trailed for most of the first half until the 8:28 minute mark when two free throws from Long tied the game for the fourth time, 24-24, and gave Ramapo the lead, 25-24. Montclair would go ahead 26-25 with two good free throws of their own just 20 seconds later, and it would be the last time they would lead in the half as Ramapo worked to a three-point lead, 48-45, heading into the locker room. Ramapo's biggest lead of the half would come at 7:08 when Moseley capitalized on an and-one play to put Ramapo ahead, 32-26.
In the second half of play, the Roadrunners held onto the lead, stretching it to 61-53 with a layout from Nock at 14:58, before an 8-0 run from Montclair tied the game for the eighth time, 61-61. The two teams traded baskets over the next two minutes until a three-pointer from Moseley at 10:32 sparked an 8-0 run to put the Roadrunners on top, 75-69. Ramapo would work to their biggest lead of the game of 15 with just 1:10 to play when Polite's layup fell through to go up, 92-77. Ramapo held the Red Hawks to six points, sinking two more of their own down the stretch, to take home the 94-83 NJAC win.
Shaune Russell led Montclair with 17 points and Jerome Hilton added 14, as the team went 24-60 (40%) on the day. Erick Loften-Harris led the team with four assists.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they take on Medgar Evers at home at 3pm.
