Union, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to NJAC rival Kean University, 60-56, tonight on the road. The Roadrunners even their overall record to 3-3 while they drop to 0-3 in the NJAC, the Cougars improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Kean jumped out to a 12-2 lead with just under 15 minutes on the clock before Ramapo went on a 13-1 run to take a 15-13 lead with just under ten minutes to play in the first half. The run was capped off with a made foul shot from
Kellie Lane while
Doris Ilic posted seven points during the stretch. A three-pointer from Shay Collins put the Cougars back in the lead by one, 16-15 (9:14) before
Jackie Jerkovich scored a basket for a one point lead, 17-16 (6:05). Kean then regained the lead with a mini 5-1 run, 21-18 with a jumper from Neia Williams with 4:30 on the clock. The Cougars stretched their lead to seven in the final minutes of the first half, taking a 28-21 advantage into the locker room.
Ilic led the Roadrunners in the first half with seven points while
I'india Davenport added four points and three rebounds. Ramapo shot 17% from the field (4-23) and 57% from the foul line (12-21).
For Kean, Jazmine Davis posted 12 first half rebounds and three points while Najha Treadwell was perfect from the floor added eight points, one block and one steal. The Cougars shot 29% (9-31) from the field and 50% from the foul line (8-16).
In the second half the Cougars went up by nine, 32-23 with a made basket from AnnaRose Pierre (18:29) before Ramapo went on a mini 5-0 run capped off with a three from Ilic off a dish from Jerkovich, cutting the lead to four with 17:13 on the clock. The Cougars once again made back-to-back shots before Ilic tallied a three-pointer to come within five, 31-36 (15:20). The Cougars could not pull away as the Roadrunners shrunk the lead to one two times over the next ten minutes. The final time as
Kerrie Kosakowski made two foul shots, 50-51 with 5:04 on the clock. Shay Collins put Kean up six, 56-50, with 3:20 left in the game on a made layup before Ramapo once again cut the lead to two with back-to-back baskets made my
Kellie Lane and Davenport, 54-56 with 2:10 on the clock. Pierre scored two points for Kean before the Roadrunners cut the lead to two, 56-58, with 53 seconds left in the game on a layup from
Grace Elliott. Kean scored the final points of the game with five seconds on the board on two foul shots from Shay Collins to seal the Cougar win, 60-56.
Davenport posted a double-double, 13 points and ten rebounds while Ilic scored 13 points of her own. Elliott posted nine points, one block and one steal. Jerkovich added six points and three steal while Kosakowski added four points and one steal. The Roadrunners shot 32% from the field (16-50), 36% from beyond the three-point line (4-11) and 60% (20-33) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on the road on Saturday, December 6th when take on Montclair State University at 3pm.
