San Juan, PR: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Edgewood College on December 28th, 88-78 in the opening round of the 2014 Puerto Rico Tournament. One day later the Roadrunners posted an, 83-76 victory over Benedictine University (Ill). Ramapo extends their winning streak to seven games and now stand at 9-2 overall.
The Roadrunners were led by
Ve'Shawn Polite who combined for 49 points, 24.5 per game. Polite was also named NJAC Men's Basketball rookie of the week for his performance on the court last week, his third NJAC honor this season.
In their 88-78 win over Edgewood College, Polite led the team with 28 points, seven rebounds and one steal.
Frank Nock added 25 points, seven point, four assists, three steals and two blocks.
Thomas Bonacum added a double double with ten points and ten rebounds while
James Long and
Christopher Moseley added eight points a piece.
Ramapo shot 47% (32-67) from the field and 91% (21-23) from the foul line while they caused 20 Edgewood turnovers.
Edgewood College (5-7) had three players score in double figures with Tal Diekvoss leading the team with 26 points. Adam Freitag added 14 points while Derek Braucht posted ten points and seven rebounds. The team shot 42% (27-63) from the field, 42% (12-28) from beyond the three point line and 60% (12-20) from the foul line. They edge the Roadrunners in rebounds, 41-37.
Polite once again led the Roadrunners this afternoon against Benedictine University (6-5), 83-76. He posted a team leading 21 points while Bonacum tallied 19 points and four steals. Nock added 16 points, three assists and two steals while Moseley grabbed six rebounds, 12 points and one block.
Ramapo shot 50% (29-57) from the field, 40% (2-5) from beyond the three point line and 76% (23-30) from the foul line. The Roadrunners grabbed 31 rebounds and caused 26 turnovers.
For Benedictine, four players scored in double figures, led by Tim McGinty with 21 points while John Dodson added 18 points. Mike Blaszczyk tallied 14 points and Tahron Harvey added 11 points of his own. The team shot 48% (28-58) from the field, 25% (6-24) from beyond the three point line and 77% (14-18) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 3rd when they host Delaware Valley College at 3pm.
