Farmingdale, NY: Behind a combined 43 points from
Frank Nock and
Thomas Bonacum, the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated the Rams of Farmingdale State College, 80-72, in a non-conference match-up on the road. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 7-2 overall, while Farmingdale falls to 2-7.
After a 33-33 tie at halftime, the Roadrunners out scored the Rams, 47-39 in the second half to bring home their seventh win of the season, their fifth straight. Nock shot 7-15 from the field and 8-9 from the charity stripe for 22 points, while Bonacum collected 21 points hitting 8-12 from the field and 5-6 from the line. The Roadrunners combined hitting 25-64 (39%) in the win, as
James Long grabbed five steals on the day. Long and
Ve'Shawn Polite each added nine points in the win, and Bonacum led in rebounds with nine. The Roadrunners forced 30 Farmingdale turnovers, but were out rebounded 35-45.
Ramapo jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game and Farmingdale answered back with six straight points to tie the game, before the two teams traded baskets over the next five-plus minutes coming to a 15-15 tie with 10:56 on the clock. Bonacum sparked an 8-0 run to put the Roadrunners up 23-15, and he would sink a layup just over a minute later to take a double-digit lead, 27-17 with 7:30 to go. With seven seconds to go in the half, the Rams worked their way back to tie the game, 33-33, which held until the buzzer. Bonacum collected 16 first half points to lead the Roadrunners as the team shot 11-32 (34%).
The two teams held just a slight lead over each other for the first seven plus minutes of the second half, until Ramapo's
Jermaine Peart hit a two-point goal to put Ramapo ahead, 48-47, a lead which they would keep for the remainder of the game. The Roadrunners led by as many as eight on four occasions down the stretch, including at the buzzer when Long hit two free throws to close out the game. Nock led Ramapo with 18 points in the second half and the team shot a combined 14-32 (44%).
Farmingdale's Justin Bailey led the team with 23 points as the team hit a combined 29-63 (46%) on the day. Ruben Terrero sank 13 points and collected a team high six assists.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 28th and 29th when they travel to the Puerto Rico Tournament to take on Edgewood College and Benedictine respectively.
