NJCU GETS PAST RAMAPO, 86-70

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team played host to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center where they posted a 70-86 loss to fall to 3-5 overall, 0-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Gothic Knights improve to .500 standing at 4-4 overall, and get their first conference win of the year to improve to 1-4.
 
The Gothic Knights put away seven three-point goals in the first half to take a 39-25 lead at the buzzer.  Just 14 seconds into the game, Deseree Johnson dropped a three point goal to get the Gothic Knights on the board, before Jade Medley and Johnson hit back-to-back long shots to jump out to a 9-0 advantage.  Jazz Randall put NJCU ahead 11-0 at 17:17, before Jackie Jerkovich finally got the Roadrunners on the scoreboard under a minute later to make it 2-11.  The Gothic Knights extended their lead to 18-6 with another long goal from Randall forcing a Roadrunner timeout.  With NJCU leading 24-9 after a three from Irelynn Donovan, Jerkovich sparked a 9-0 run with a free throw to close the gap, 18-24 with 5:45 to go in the half.  The Roadrunners were held to just seven points down the stretch as NJCU worked their way to their biggest lead of 16 with 25 seconds on the clock, with two good free throws from Medley.  NJCU went 13-31 (42%) in the half as Medley led the team with 12 points and four assists.  The Gothic Knights forced 14 Ramapo turnovers in the half where Jerkovich led in points with 12.  The team hit 7-25 (28%) in the half.
 
Medley put away a three-pointer, her fourth of the game, to open the second half of play, before Kerrie Kosakowski answered back with one of her own at 18:42.  NJCU strung together six points, capped off with another three from Johnson, to take a 48-30 lead with 16:16 to play.  The Gothic Knights would go ahead by 20, 54-34 with 13:36 on the clock, before the Roadrunners posted an 8-0 run, capped off with a three from Jerkovich, to close the gap, 42-54, forcing a Gothic Knight time out.  The Gothic Knights kept their distance until 3:56 when a three from Doris Ilic closed the gap, 53-66, and another three from Jerkovich at 3:42 broke within double-digits closing the gap to 57-66.  NJCU would go ahead 70-59 before Jerkovich struck again, hitting another three to come within eight, 62-70 with under three to play in the game.  The Gothic Knights proved to be too much down the stretch as the Roadrunners fell, 70-86 in the conference match-up.  Medley led NJCU with 13 points in the half as the team hit 10-30 (33%) from the field.  Jerkovich sank a team leading 20 points including four three-point goals, as Ramapo went 12-29 (41%) in the half. 
 
Medley led the Gothic Knights on the night with 25 points and Johnson added 14, as Randall finished with ten in the win.  The team shot a combined 23-61 (38%).  Medley dished out five assists and Bria Smith recorded a double-double with ten points and a team leading 12 boards.
 
Ramapo was led by Jerkovich who finished the game with a collegiate high 32 points, shooting 8-16 from the field, including 4-8 from behind the arc.  Ilic and  Kosakowski each added eight points in the loss.  The Roadrunners hit 19-54 (35%) in the game and Kosakowski led in assists with four.  Jerkovich grabbed four steals in the loss.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday, December 14th when they host John Jay at 2pm in their final game of the year.
