Zach Savacool scored what turned out to be the game winner as the Ramapo College men's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University today, 3-1, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Athletic Center. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 7-6-2 overall, 1-4-1 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights fall to 1-13-3 overall, 0-6 in the conference.
The Roadrunners got on the board first at 8:07, when a deflected shot off the NJCU goaltender, landed on the foot of Kevin Monoghan, who chipped the ball to the head of senior
Dan Boffa, who pushed the ball to the back of the net scoring his sixth goal of the season. The lone goal held until the halftime buzzer where Ramapo held a 6-2 edge in shots.
Brady O'Connor made one first half save and Tyler Krychkowski blocked three shots for the Gothic Knights.
In the second half of play, NJCU's Nelson Sosa, collected his first goal of the 2014 season, ripping a shot into the upper 90 past the diving O'Connor, to knot the game at one goal a piece. The game tying goal came in the 56th minute of play. Savacool, took a dish from
James Merges, to post what turned out to be the game winning goal at 78:10. Boffa earned an assist in the 85th minute when he dished a ball to
Lucas Tasci, to put Ramapo ahead by the final score, 3-1. Ramapo again led in shots, this time 12-4, and O'Connor went untested in the final 45 minutes of play. Krychkowski made two saves in the second half.
The Roadrunners held a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 18th, when they travel to NJAC rival, The College of New Jersey, for a 1pm match-up.
