KEAN SLIPS PAST RAMAPO, 72-68

Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to NJAC rival Kean University tonight at the Bradley Center, 72-68.  Behind 19 points from Jaquetta Owens, the Cougars collected their  11th (11-7) win of the season, 8th (8-3) in the conference.

Ramapo's Anna Fucci would sink back-to-back three pointers to put the Roadrunners in the lead, 68-65, with 2:53 on the clock, but it was Kean who prevailed in the end, scoring the game's final seven points, collecting the four point road victory in Mahwah, 72-68.

Four different Cougars scored in double figures. Owens led the team with 19 points and three assists, while Simone Smith added 12 points, two steals and two assists. Essences Casey tallied 11 points and a team high four assists while AnnaRose Pierre recorded ten points of her own.

For Ramapo, Micaela Moore and Fucci led the Roadrunners (10-9, 7-5 NJAC) in the game with 20 points a piece. Moore recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.  She also added four steals in the loss. Fucci connected on five three pointers in the game.

Moore opened the game with a layup off a feed from Alayna Donadio before they would work their way to a seven point lead, 13-6, on an and-one play from Bintou Berete. Kean would go on a 13-2 run, capped off by a jumper from Casey, to take a five point lead, 19-14, with 8:38 on the clock. The Roadrunners then cut the lead to one, 21-22, with a 6-3 run of their own, capped off with a jumper from Moore at 6:41.  With the Cougars up seven, 30-23 (5:18), Ramapo would connect seven points with Berete and Kerrie Kosakowski hitting back-to-back jumpers, and Fucci draining a three, to tie the game at 30 with 3:17 left in the half. The Cougars would out score Ramapo, 9-5 in the final minutes of the half to head into the locker room with a 39-35 lead over the Roadrunners.

Ramapo opened the second half with a three-point goal from Fucci, before Smith and Davis recorded back-to-back jumpers to give Kean a, 43-38 lead.  Moore hit two free throws and Jackie Jerkovich cut the lead to one, 42-43 (15:10) with a jumper of her own.  Kean would sink back-to-back threes to take a five point lead, 49-44, with 14:19 on the clock, and they would stretch that lead to as many as seven, 57-50, (10:54), before Ramapo went on a 9-4 run to come within two points.  Fucci capped off the run at 6:27 to close the gap, 59-63.  Fucci would later sink back-to-back three pointers to put Ramapo in the lead, 68-65, with 2:53 on the clock, but it wasn't enough as Kean scored the final seven points of the game to win it, 72-68.

Kean shot 43% (28-65) from the field in the game and 85% (6-7) from the foul line. This Cougars also sunk ten three pointers in the win.  Ramapo shot a combined 40% (23-57) from the field and 81% (17-21) from the foul line. Ramapo caused 22 Cougar turnovers and tallied 13 steals in the game.
