WPU SNAPS RAMAPO WIN STREAK

Box Score Wayne, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to NJAC rival William Paterson University (8-7, 5-3 NJAC) tonight on the road, 81-73, as the Pioneers snapped a three-game win streak for the Roadrunners.

Senior Micaela Moore led the team with her seventh double-double of the season as she posted 20 points and ten rebounds. Senior Alayna Donadio posted 14 points and three assists while junior Jackie Jerkovich tallied 13 points and dished out a team high six assists. Junior Kelly Haspel added 12 points of her own along with four rebounds and two assists. The Roadrunners shot 41% (24-58) from the field, 36% (7-19) from beyond the three point line and 75% (18-24) from the foul line. Ramapo held a slight advantage in rebounds for the game over the Pioneers, 42-39.

WPU got on the board first in the game as they scored the first four points, 4-0 before Ramapo tied the game, 4-4, with two made foul shots from Moore (18:04). The Pioneers did not hold a lead more then two over the next eight minutes as the two teams battled, Ramapo then took a three point lead, 22-19 (9:08) on a pair of Moore foul shots. WPU regained the lead on a mini 6-0 run to go up three, 25-22. The game was tied four more times down the stretch before Ramapo took a one point lead, 37-36 with 19 seconds remaining in the half. WPU was able to score with six seconds left to go up, 38-37, heading into the locker room.

In the second half, WPU stretched their lead to eight, 47-39 (16:31) before Ramapo went on a mini 5-0 run to come within three, 44-47. Jerkovich hit a three while Haspel made a jumper (15:17). Ramapo was able to cut the lead to two, 52-54 (9:10) on a jumper from Moore before WPU regained an 11 point lead as they went on a 9-0 run, capped off with a jumper from Dana Jeter, 63-52, with 6:14 left to play in the game. Ramapo slashed the lead to six 57-63 (5:36) before WPU went back up 11, 68-57 on a three from Kristine Jackiewicz with 4:13 on the clock. Jerkovich hit a shot from beyond the three point line with 1:23 left in the game to cut the lead to seven, 67-74 while a three from Donadio put the Roadrunners only down four with 18 seconds to go, 73-77. WPU then made four straight foul shots in the final seconds of the game to come away with the, 81-73 victory.


Ramapo (7-7, 4-4 NJAC) will now host NJAC rival Richard Stockton University on Saturday, January 18th at 1pm.
