Box Score New York, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated the Hawks of Hunter College tonight in a non-conference match-up, 88-75 in overtime. With the victory the Roadrunners get their third straight win, seventh (7-6) overall for the season.
Four players scored in double figures for the Roadrunners. Junior
Jackie Jerkovich led the team with 22 points, including six three pointers while also recording three assists and three steals. Senior
Micaela Moore posted her fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and ten rebounds. Senior
Alayna Donadio scored 13 points while recording a team high four assists and four steals. Senior
Anna Fucci tallied 11 points while junior
Kelly Haspel scored eight point and pulled down six rebounds.
Ramapo scored the first basket of the game, as Donadio took a pass from Jerkovich with 19:20 on the clock, 2-0. The Hawks would open up a nine point lead over the Roadrunners, 25-16, before Ramapo cut the lead to four with 3:26 to go in the first half. Junior
Kerrie Kosakowski completed a three-point play, 25-21. The two teams traded baskets before Hunter scored five unanswered points to take an 11 point lead, 33-22, with just under a minute on the clock. Ramapo went into the locker room down ten, 35-25.
The Roadrunners came back in the second half to tie the game for the third time, 40-40 (15:53) on a made three from Fucci before the Hawks regained a seven point lead, 49-42 (12:40). Ramapo then went on a 13-5 run, capped off by jumper from Moore to take a one point lead, 55-54 with 7:37 on the clock. Hunter went on a 12-1 run to take an eight point lead with 3:16 to go in the second half. Ramapo then went on a min 5-0, as Moore hit a jumper and Jerkovich sank a three point shot with 2:26 on the clock to come within three, 63-66. The Hawks came back with a made basket of their own before Donadio completed a three point play with 51 seconds left in the half to come within two, 66-68. The Roadrunner got the ball back with 29 seconds on the clock before Moore sank two crucial foul shots with 24 seconds remaining to tie the game for the fifth time, 68-68. Neither team could get a shot off in the final seconds sending the game into overtime.
It was all Ramapo in the overtime period as they opened up the period with an 8-0 run, including two three pointers from Jerkovich, 76-68 (3:01). The Roadrunners extended their lead to fourteen, 84-70, as Fucci hit two foul shots with 47 seconds to go. Ramapo would hit the final basket of the game as Fucci scored two fouls shots with 19 seconds on the clock for the 88-75 road victory. The Roadrunners outscored the Hawks, 20-7 in the overtime period.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 15th when they travel to William Paterson for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
