Wayne, NJ: The Ramapo College women's tennis team defeated NJAC rival William Paterson University today at the WPU Tennis Courts, 7-2. The Roadrunners (1-0, 1-0 NJAC) earned their first victory of the season in their first match of the year while the Pioneers (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) drop their season opener.
Ramapo came out of doubles action with two team points as
Sara Luby and
Micala Demchak defeated Jessica Daniels and Mary Skretkowicz, 9-8 (7-4) in the tiebreak.
Stephanie Abrecht and
Ivy Schuckman shutout their opponents, Fallon Conry and Caitlin Pariso, 8-0.
In singles action, the Roadrunners won five out of the six matches to come away with the 7-2 victory.
Carly Agrifolio won at second singles, 6-2, 6-0 before Abrecht won 6-2, 6-3 at third singles. Demchak picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at fourth singles before
Katrina Biss won at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Elena Maria Ilieva posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles.
The Roadrunners return to action this Friday, September 6th, when they travel to NJAC foe Rutgers Camden University for a 3:30pm match.
