MATHELIER LEADS STEVENS OVER RAMAPO, 5-0

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  Rookie Gabby Mathelier of Stevens Institute of Technology, tallied two goals and two assists in a 5-0 road win over host Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center.

The Ducks improve to 2-3 overall while the Roadrunners drop to 1-4 on the season.

The game looked to go in Ramapo's favor in the first half as senior Katie Popowych's was able to get past the defense in the ninth and tenth minutes but her shots were stopped by sophomore goalie Leah Spaulding.

The Ducks scored in the 12th minute of the game (11:07), the eventual game winning goal, by junior Ann Heine, she was assisted by Mathelier. Ramapo out shot Stevens in the first half 7-6 while the Ducks held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Stevens would score four goals in the second half to take a 5-0 lead. Juniors Mariah Cleveland and Stephanie Basile each notched their first goals of the season at 48:39 and 59:38 respectively.  Mathelier hit the back of the net (60:06 & 72:41) for the final two goals of the game.

In the second half, Stevens outscored Ramapo 11-3 while each team posted one corner kick in the half.

For the Roadrunners, senior Talia Auslin started the game while recording three saves and one goal against in 45 minutes of play. Junior Itati Aburto started the second half for Ramapo and made four stops with four goals against.

Sophomore Leah Spaulding earned the win for the Ducks with four saves in 60:06 minutes of play while sophomore Evelyn Ting made one save in 29:54 minutes of play.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday, September 14th at 1:00pm.
