SOFTBALL SPILTS WITH RUTGERS-NEWARK

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Newark, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a NJAC double header today with rival Rutgers-Newark University. The Roadrunners won game one, 11-2 in six innings while they fell to the Scarlet Raiders, 0-2 in game two.

Ramapo now stands at 14-12 overall, 5-7 in the NJAC while Rutgers-Newark now stands at 7-19 overall and 2-10 in the NJAC.

In game one, Ramapo scored one run in the fourth inning when senior Kelsey Higgins drove home sophomore Kim LaPenta. LaPenta led off the inning with a single up the middle.

RU-Newark tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth inning, 1-1 before Ramapo scored one run in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Jaclyn Lima doubled to left center before advancing to third on a hit from junior Caitlin Smith. LaPenta then drove home Lima with an infield ground out. Ramapo added nine runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth to take a 11-1 lead.

Newark scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth, 11-2, as the game was called due to the ten run rule.

Ramapo starting pitcher Nicole Schneider (6-6) went the distance striking out one and scattering five hits. Lisa Orlando led the team at the plate going 2-4 with four RBI and one run scored while Smith was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI.

In game two, Ru-Newark scored two runs in the bottom of the second, both unearned. Neither team would score after the second inning. The Scarlet Raiders held Ramapo to five hits while the Roadrunners only struck out one time.

Harley Masiello took the loss for Ramapo, as she scattered four hits over six innings of work while striking out two.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they host non-conference rival Moravian College at 3:30pm.
