SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF NTC SPRING GAMES

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Claremont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team split their first two games of the 2013 season today at the NTC Spring Games. Ramapo (1-1) fell to #9 Plattsburgh State (1-0), 4-1 before they came back to defeat Oswego State (1-3), 5-0 in game two.

Ashley Marshall struck out 13 Roadrunners and surrendered only four hits as the #9 Plattsburgh State defeated Ramapo, 4-1 in game one at the NTC Spring Games.

Plattsburgh State got on the board in the second inning with three runs on three hits. Michelle Iannone led off the inning with a double to left field before being lifted for pinch runner Melanie Hayes. A single and stolen base put runners on second and third before a fielder's choice would load the bases with no outs. Samantha Tenney laced a single down the right field line, plating two RBI for a 2-0 lead. Kerry McCarty plated the third run of the inning with a ground out to short stop before Ramapo got the final two outs with a strike out and ground out to third base. Plattsburgh added a single run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Ramapo had their best opportunity to get runs on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Kim LaPenta and senior Kelsey Higgins led off with back to back singles before Plattsburgh recorded an out via strike out. Sophomore Taylor Boffalo ripped a single to center field to load the bases. With two outs, sophomore Jaclyn Lima slapped a single to the shortstop to plate LaPenta with the Roadrunner's only run of the game before Plattsburgh would induce a strikeout to end the game with a 4-1 win.

Ramapo starting pitcher junior Nicole Schneider struck out three and walked one in five complete innings of work. She surrendered seven hits and four runs. Junior Harley Masiello finished the game for Ramapo, surrendering now hits and walking one.

The Roadrunners didn't take long to get a run across in game two against Oswego State. Lima started the game off with a triple to right center field before she crossed home plate on LaPenta's single up the middle to take a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Roadrunners scored four more runs to take a 5-0 lead. Junior Kristen Wilson walked before being replaced by pinch runner, senior Amanda Kent. Kent would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt and an infield single before coming home on the throw to first base, 2-0. Lima stole second and went to third on rookie Danielle Saporito's infield single. Saporito stole second to put runner's at second and third with one out before LaPenta drilled a triple to left centerfield to score two RBI, 4-0. Rookie Melissa Moreno took the second pitch she saw and laced it into right center field to plate LaPenta with Ramapo's fifth run of the game, 5-0.

Masiello went the distance for Ramapo as she struck out eight and walked only two. She scattered six hits. Ramapo was led by Lima (4-4, 2 runs scored), LaPenta (2-3, 1 run scored and 3 RBI, and Moreno (3-4, 1 RBI) at the plate

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at the NTC Spring Games with games against Western New England University at 9am and Wesleyan University at 11am.
