Box Score Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University tonight at the Golden Dome Arena, 63-43. The Roadrunners fall to 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 15-8 overall, 9-6 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raiders jumped out to an 11 point lead, 15-4 on a layup from ShaQuanna Marshall before Ramapo cut the lead to four after going on a mini 7-0 run.
Hannah Jensen started the run with a three pointer (13:34) and
Kerrie Kosakowski scored a layup (11:24) to cap the run off down 15-11. Rutgers-Newark went back up eight before Ramapo hit back to back shots from Moore to close the gap, 17-21 (7:40). A 7-1 run by the Scarlet Raiders extended their lead to ten, 28-18 (4:58) before Ramapo went on a 7-0 run of their own to shrink the lead to three, 28-25, with 2:04 to go in the first half. Flannery posted four points during the run. Marshall nailed a deep three for the Scarlet Raiders (1:49) before Flannery ended the half with a jumper in the paint to close the lead to four, 31-27 heading into the locker room.
Senior
Faith Flannery led the Roadrunners in the first half with 11 points and four rebounds while junior
Micaela Moore posted six points. Ramapo shot 41% (10-24) from the field and 66% (6-9) from the foul line.
In the second half, Marshall and Kosakowski traded baskets before a 6-2 run by the Scarlet Raiders extended their lead, 39-31. Back to back shots from junior
Alayna Donadio and Moore cut the lead to four, 39-35 with 14:51 on the clock. Newark then went on a 10-0 run capped off by a layup from Jade Howard, 49-35 before Haspel scored a basket for the Roadrunners, 49-37 (10:21). Laura Shakiri then hit back to back to back three point field goals for Rutgers-Newark as they extended their lead to 21, 58-37 with 8:08 left in the game. Flannery drove to the basket and was fouled as she completed an and-one play, 58-40 with 5:25 to go in the half. Maria Simmons nailed a shot from beyond the three point line before Moore hit a bucket with 4:43, with the Scarlet Raiders leading 61-42. Daniels hit the final basket for Rutgers Newark with 2:10 left on the clock before Kosakowski sank a foul shot (1:53) as the Scarlet Raiders came away with a 63-43 NJAC victory.
Daniels led the Scarlet Raiders in the second half with eight points while Howard added six points and seven rebounds. The team shot 37% (14-37) from the floor in the half. For the Roadrunners, Moore scored four points and blocked three shots while sophomore
Alex Milne grabbed four rebounds.
In the game, the Scarlet Raiders out rebounded the Roadrunners, 44-34 as they forced 22 Ramapo turnovers to their 12. Howard led the team with 13 points in the game and 14 rebounds while Marshall and Daniels each added 12 points a piece. Simmons contributed with 11 points and Shakiri tallied nine points.The Scarlet Raiders recorded 19 second chance points in the game and 24 points off of turnovers.
Flannery led the team with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals while Moore added ten points, six rebounds and three total blocks. Milne led the team with seven rebounds while adding three points.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they host NJAC rival Richard Stockton College at 1pm. Ramapo will honor their senior class,
