RAMAPO FALLS TO KEAN, 70-60

Box Score Union, NJ:  The Kean University women's basketball defeated the visiting Roadrunners tonight, 70-60, in non-conference action snapping Ramapo's seven game win streak. The Roadrunners now stand at 14-5 overall while the Cougars improve to 4-13.

Sophomore Alex Milne put the Roadrunners on the board first before Kean hit their first basket, 18:32, 2-2 to tie the game. Senior Faith Flannery and Milne then hit back to back jumpers to take a 6-2 lead (18:03) before the game was tied for the third time, 8-8 (16:06) with a made basket by Kean's Erika Jones. Ramapo and Kean tied the game two more times before Ramapo junior Micaela Moore hit a jumper off an assist from sophomore Jackie Jerkovich to tie the game at 19 all with 10:14 on the clock. That sparked a 9-0 run that put Ramapo up, 26-19 (7:06) that was capped off by a basket from Milne. Kean would go on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 27 with 4:32 left in the half before sophomore Kelly Haspel and Moore hit back to back baskets for the Roadrunners, 31-27 (3:44). AnnaRose Pierre nailed a three for the Cougars before Flannery came back and scored a layup of her own to keep a 33-30 lead (2:47). The two teams traded baskets down the stretch before Kean hit the final two baskets to take a one point lead heading into the locker room, 36-35.

Ramapo shot 53% (15-28) from the field and 66% (4-6) from the foul line. Milne led the team with ten first half points while Flannery posted seven. For the Cougars, the team shot 47% (17-36) from the field and went 0-2 from the foul line.

In the second half, Ramapo scored the first four points of the game to take a three point lead, 39-36, with two made foul shots from Flannery and a basket by Milne before Kean went on a 7-0 run to take a 40-39 lead with 16:20 on the clock. Meghan Williams hit one of her three three-point shots to go up four, 43-39 in favor of the Cougars before Jones sparked a 12-2 run with a layup and it was capped off by a layup from Shay Collins, as Kean started to take control of the game with an 11 point, 55-44 lead with 11:25 on the clock. Ramapo would cut the lead to seven on a basket by junior Alayna Donadio before the Cougars once again regained an 11 point lead, 61-50 (7:59).  Ramapo would shrink the Kean lead to eight on two made foul shots from Haspel with 2:25 left in the game before the Cougars went on a 5-0 run down the stretch before junior Anna Fucci hit a three point shot with 27 seconds remaining for the Roadrunners, the final basket of the game, as Kean came away with the 70-60 victory. 

Milne finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in the game while Moore and Flannery each recorded nine points. Ramapo shot 35% (23-65) in the game and 63% (12-19) from the foul line.

The Cougars were led by Jones who posted a double-double, 20 points and 24 rebounds while Pierre added 18 points. Collins tallied ten points and four assists in the game for Kean. The team shot 41% (29-70) and out rebounded the Roadrunners, 53-35.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival the College of New Jersey for a 1:00pm game.
