SANBORN LEADS RAMAPO OVER KEAN, 70-55

Will Sanborn becomes the 17th men's basketball player to score 1.000 career points

Box Score Union, NJ:  Senior Will Sanborn scored his 1,000th career point in the second half as the #11 Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival Kean University, 70-55. The Roadrunners improve to 17-2 overall and 11-1 in the NJAC while the Cougars fall to 6-13 overall and 5-7 in the NJAC.

Sanborn becomes the 17th Roadrunner in men's basketball history to achieve the 1,000-point plateau, he hit the mark with a deep shot from beyond the three-point line with 16:56 on the clock in the second half off an assist from fellow senior Anthony LoRusso.  Earlier this week the Roadrunners were ranked 11th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 National Poll.

The Cougars led by four to start the game before Ramapo went on a 7-0 run. Senior Elgin Brown scored a layup before Sanborn hit a three pointer and LoRusso scored a layup of his own with 16:13 on the clock to take a three point lead, 7-4. Kean would take a 9-7 lead before senior Stephon Treadwell hit a jumper to tie the game at nine (14:44). With the game tied at 17, junior Elvonney Poole hit a jumper (17:14) before Kean came back and nailed a three point shot with 6:27 on the clock to take a one point lead, 20-19. The two teams traded baskets before Treadwell sank a layup (4:29) to go up one, 25-24. Kean would then go on a 9-2 run capped off by a three from Anthony Gibson to take a 33-27 lead with 1:57 to go in the half. Ramapo would go on a 6-0 run of their own down the stretch as the hit three straight baskets capped off by Treadwell's layup to tie the game at 33 with 18 seconds on the clock. Kean would put in the final basket of the half with two seconds remaining with a layup by Frank Nock to head into the locker room up two, 35-33.

In the second half, Kean scored first before Ramapo went on a 11-2 run, including Sanborn's 1,000th career point, to take a 41-37 lead, capped off by a foul shot by Treadwell with 16:19 on the clock. Kean came back with a three pointer of their own before Ramapo hit back to back shots from seniors Garret Thiel and Brown, 48-40 (15:10). Nock made a three point shot for Kean before Thiel and LoRusso each sank one for the Roadrunners to take a nine point lead, 54-45 (12:40).  Michael Burton hit a three for the Cougars to cut the lead to four, 54-50 with 9:31 to go in the game before the Roadrunners went on a 16-5 run down the stretch to take control of the game. Thiel scored the final basket of the with 1:04 on the clock for the 70-55 road victory and fifth straight win.

Ramapo saw all five starters score in double figures in the game. Led by Sanborn with 18 points, four assists and five rebounds. Brown added 13 points and eight rebounds while Treadwell posted 11 points and six rebounds. Thiel posted a double-double in the game as he tallied ten points and 11 rebounds while LoRusso added ten points and two assists. Patrick O'Connell also contributed with six points. The Roadrunners shot 45% (29-64) from the floor and 50% (7-14) from beyond the three point line while they shot 55% (5-9) from the charity stripe.  The Roadrunners forced 12 Cougar turnovers while Ramapo only turned the ball over seven times tonight.

#11 Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival the College of New Jersey for a 3:00pm game.
