RAMAPO OUTLASTS HUNTER, 53-49

Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a 53-49 non-conference win over Hunter College tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 8-4 overall while the Hawks fall to 2-8.

Ramapo jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 19 seconds in the game when sophomore Jackie Jerkovich hit a three pointer before senior Faith Flannery made a jumper of her own to put Ramapo up 5-0 with 18:00 on the clock.  The Roadrunners extended their lead to eight, 13-5, on a made foul shot by sophomore Kerri Kosakowski before the Hawks shrunk the lead to two, 13-11 (11:31) with a made basket by Dimitra Thomopoulos. The Roadrunners then went on an 8-5 run capped off by a made basket by sophomore Alex Milne, 21-16 with 3:57 left in the half. Ramapo outscored the Hawks, 5-0 in the final 1:41 seconds of the half to go into the locker room up, 25-16.

The Roadrunners shot 35% (10-28) from the floor while the Hawks shot 16% (4-24) from the floor. Jerkovich led Ramapo with nine points while junior Michaela Moore grabbed a team high nine rebounds.

Hunter came back in the first five minutes of the second half to take a one point lead with 15:12 on the clock. The Hawks went on a 12-2 run which included two three point baskets and was capped off by a jumper by Nicole Lenard to take the lead for Hunter, 28-27. Ramapo led by one, 38-37 with 7:28 on the clock with a made jumper by Milne before Lenard hit a basket with 5:31 left in the game to take a 39-38 lead. The Hawks took a two point lead before Flannery tied the game at 42 all with 3:52 to go in the game before the Hawks took a time out with 3:20 left on the clock. Kosakowski then sank three of four foul shots on two trips to the line to take a 45-42 lead before the two teams traded baskets putting the Roadrunners up 47-44 with 1:23 left in the game. The Hawks made two foul shots with just under one minute to play in the game before Milne nailed a jumper for Ramapo to take a 49-46 lead with 43 seconds left in the game. Coming off timeout the Roadrunners forced a turnover and the Hawks had to foul with just under ten seconds left in the game sending sophomore Kelly Haspel to the line as she sank both foul shots, 51-49. The Hawks would sink a three pointer of their own by Carolyn Kweon before Kosakowski sank both foul shots to put the Roadrunners in the lead, 53-49. The Hawks could not get a shot off in the final seconds of the game as Ramapo came away with a 53-49 victory.

Ramapo shot 38% (20-52) from the field and 66% from the foul line (12-18) while the Roadrunners forced the Hawks to commit 24 turnovers as Ramapo collected 15 steals. Jerkovich led the team with 11 points and a team high six assists while Milne added ten points, including eight in the second half. Moore grabbed a game high 14 rebounds while she sank eight points. Kosakowski added eight points while Haspel contributed with six points.

For the Hawks, Lenard posted a game high 20 points while Thomopoulos grabbed a team high ten rebounds.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a 3:00pm game.
