TREADWELL LEADS RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team, behind 23 points from senior forward Stephon Treadwell, earned an 85-63 victory today over the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden.  The Roadrunners post their fourth straight win, improving to 16-2 overall, 10-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Rutgers Camden falls to 7-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Treadwell shot 11-18 from the field while the Roadrunners shot a combined 33-60 (55%) in the win.  Garret Thiel netted 15 points and Elgin Brown and Anthony LoRusso collected 13 and 11 respectively.  Theil led the team with eight rebounds.

A three-pointer from LoRusso put the Roadrunners up seven, 11-4, at 16 minutes flat, before the Scarlet Raptors went on an 11-4 run to tie the game at 15, with 11:45 to play.  Yusuf Leary sparked the run and Woody Redding capped it off for the game's first tie.  The lead would change five more times over the remainder of the half with Ramapo finishing on top with a 34-33 intermission advantage.  Ramapo pushed ahead five, with just 38 seconds on the clock, when Brown hit a jump shot to go up, 33-28.  The Scarlet Raptors would sink five points, including a buzzer beating three from Leary, to close the halftime gap to one point.  Ramapo shot a combined 15-32 (47%) in the first 20 minutes of play, while the Scarlet Raptors sank 13 field goals on 31 attempts, hitting 42% of their shots.  Ramapo's Brown and Rutgers Camden's Teon Russell led all scorers with 11 points each.  Treadwell collected eight points and Leary finished with seven.

The Scarlet Raptors forced a Ramapo timeout at 17:42 after opening with a 6-0 run to go ahead, 39-34.  Russell hit back-to-back baskets to start the run, and Michael Williams capped it off for the five-point advantage.  Forty-one seconds later, LoRusso drained a three and followed it up with a jump shot to tie the game, 41-41.  Russell netted a two-point goal before the Roadrunners strung together eight points to earn a seven-point, 50-43 lead with 13:14 on the clock.  LoRusso sparked the run with a free throw and Treadwell capped it off with a jump shot just under three minutes later.  After a basket from Steven Schneider at 10:50 to close the gap to five, 45-50, Thiel and Treadwell drained a three and a two-point goal respectively for a double-digit, 55-45 lead with just over ten to play. The Roadrunners stretched their lead to 15 points, 65-50, after Treadwell nailed a jumper at 7:23, and Ramapo took a 17-point edge, with six minutes flat to play, with two free throws from Patrick O'Connell.  The Scarlet Raptors chipped away at Ramapo's lead coming within 12, 58-70 at 4:37, with a layup from Russell.  Russell grabbed the rebound and drove the length of the court for the basket.  Ramapo spent the remainder of the game spreading the gap, earning their biggest lead with 1:24 to play when John Martens drained a three-pointer to go up, 83-60.  Rutgers Camden's James Coleman answered with a three-point goal of his own but it wasn't enough, falling short to Ramapo, 85-63.

Russell finished the night with a double-double including 25 points and 15 rebounds, while Leary collected nine points in the loss.  The team shot a combined 25-69 (36%) in the game.

Ramapo takes action again on Wednesday, January 23rd when they travel to Kean University for an 8pm tip.
