Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated non-conference rival York College (NY), 78-52 tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners who came into tonight's game ranked twelfth in the country, in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improves to 14-2 overall while the Cardinals now stand at 7-8 overall.
The Roadrunners started the game 0-5 while the Cardinals went 0-3 from the field before
Anthony LoRusso nailed a three pointer for Ramapo to take a 3-0 lead with 16:52 on the clock. Ramapo went up, 14-7, with 12:56 on the clock on two made foul shots by
Garret Thiel before the Cardinals cut the lead to three with back to back made jumpers, 11-14 (11:54). Ramapo would go on a 13-5 run capped off by a layup by LoRusso to take a 27-16 lead (6:46). Ramapo's biggest lead of the half came down the stretch when they led by 13, 38-26 as
Stephon Treadwell sank a basket off a dish from
Keith Benthall with 1:20 to go in the half. The Cardinals scored the final points of the half on made foul shots by Tony Vails as the Roadrunners went into the locker room with a 39-28 lead.
LoRusso tallied 14 first half points for Ramapo while
Elgin Brown posted ten of his own. The Roadrunners shot 44% (13-29) from the field and 91% (11-12) from the foul line in the half.
In the second half, Ramapo held a double-digit lead until the final buzzer sounded. The closest the Cardinals would get was by ten on two occasions early in the half, 17:23 and 14:49 as Shamir Wilkinson hit a jumper for York to cut the lead to, 45-35.
John Martens started a 15-4 run with 11:32 on the clock as he hit a jumper and it was capped off by a
Patrick O'Connell foul shot at 6:39 as Ramapo went up 21, 62-41. Martens tallied nine points in the run. Ramapo saw their biggest lead of the game come with 42 seconds left on the clock on a made jumper by
Raibier Batista, 78-50 before the Cardinals hit the last bucket of the game with two seconds remaining, 78-52, as Ramapo won their second straight game.
LoRusso led the team with 15 points while Brown and Thiel each posted 13 point performances. Treadwell added eight points while
Will Sanborn added 11 points and eight rebounds. O'Connell dished out a team high six assists and Martens contributed with nine points of his own. Ramapo shot 50% (28-55) from the floor in the game and 75% (18-24) from the foul line and 44% (4-9) from beyond the three point arc.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University at the Bradley Center on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
