RAMAPO & WPU SPLIT IN NJAC SOFTBALL ACTION

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College (15-3, 2-2 NJAC) softball team split a NJAC doubleheader with William Paterson University (13-5, 2-2 NJAC) today at the Athletic Center. The Pioneers defeated the Roadrunners in game one, 3-2 in eight innings while Ramapo came back to shutout the Pioneers in game two, 3-0.


The Pioneers tied the game in the sixth inning and took the lead in the top of the eighth, 3-2 to win game one. The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead as Jaclyn Lima led off the game with a double and came around to score on a Pioneer error. Lisa Orlando reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a double by Janet Brown. The relay throw to third base got away from the Pioneer infield allowing Orlando to cross home plate, 2-0.

In the fourth inning, the Pioneers scored one run on an RBI single by Kelsey Hand to come within one, 2-1 before they scored the tying run in the top of the sixth inning. Raquel Roder doubled to center field with one out before Jessica Maciolek ripped a two-out single to center field allowing Roder to come around to score and tie the game at two; and setting up the game winning run in the eight for the Pioneers, 3-2.

Lauren Shaw (8-2) scattered eight hits in the complete game loss with one strikeout and three runs scored (one earned).

Kelsey Hand earned the win for WPU as she struck out four and walked two in the complete game win.

In game two, Ramapo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Lima doubled to center field to lead off the inning before Tiffany Fischer singled to center field to put runners on first and third with no outs. Danielle Rothenberger ripped a RBI single to left field as Lima came around to score. Taylor Boffalo then singled up the middle plating Fischer to go up 2-0.

Ramapo would score one run in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Fischer led off the inning with a double to left field before Rothenberger smacked a double to center field for the RBI. The Roadrunners held the Pioneers in the final two innings for the win.

Ramapo starter Harley Masiello scattered five hits over three innings while she struck out three. Nicole Schneider (4-0) came in the game in the fourth inning in relief as she struck out two and gave up only one hit, earning the win. Lima, Fischer, Rothenberger and Kim LaPenta all had two hits a piece for Ramapo.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to NJAC rival #9 Rowan University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
