Box Score 2 Little Falls, NJ: The Montclair State University softball team swept a NJAC conference doubleheader today against Ramapo College, 1-0 & 4-2. The Roadrunners fall to 24-10, 9-7 in the conference while the Red Hawks improve to 34-4 overall, 14-2 in the NJAC.
Alex Hill fired a one-hit shutout in game one while the Red Hawks defeated Ramapo, 1-0. Hill helped her own cause in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single to left field plating Jamie Paulino who reached on a single earlier in the inning.
Tiffany Fischer collected the lone hit for Ramapo in the top of the first inning.
Lauren Shaw (15-5) surrendered only five hits while striking out six and walking one in the complete game.
Hill (22-2) struck out 13 while walking none in her 11th shutout of the season. Hill was also perfect at the plate going 3-3 while Paulino added the other two hits for the Red Hawks.
In game two, MSU got on the board early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning before Ramapo scored their first run of the game in the top of the second.
Taylor Boffalo reach on an infield error by MSU to lead off the inning and later came home on a bases loaded walk by
Courtney Borovskis but that is all the Roadrunners would get as MSU recorded the final out to end the threat. They scored in the top of the third to shrink the MSU lead to when the bases were loaded for Kimberly LaPenta who ripped a single to right field scoring
Danielle Rothenberger who walked earlier in the inning, 2-3.
The Red Hawks got one back in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 4-2 with a solo home run by Stephanie Szeliga. Ramapo was not able to tie the score to push the game into extra innings as Hill earned the save for MSU.
Shaw (15-6) struck out three and surrendered nine hits in the complete game.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon at home when they host Stevens Institute of Technology for one game at 4:00pm. The team will honor their four seniors prior to the game.
