RAMAPO-RUTGERS NEWARK SPLIT NJAC DOUBLEHEADER

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College (24-8, 9-5) softball team split an NJAC double header today at the Athletic Center with Rutgers Newark University (13-20, 2-12). The Roadrunners won the first game, 6-1 while Scarlet Raiders came back to take game two, 7-1.

The Scarlet Raiders got on the board in the top of the first inning with a leadoff home run by Victoria Sovak to take a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners took the lead back in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs capped off by a three-run home run by Lisa Orlando.

Rampao added one more run in the fifth inning when Danielle Rothenberger blasted her ninth homerun of the season, extending the lead to 6-1.

Lauren Shaw earned her 15th win of the season as she worked a complete game with four strikeouts and no walks while scattering seven hits. Rothenberger was a perfect 3-3 in the game with two runs scored and two RBI.

Rutgers Newark took game two 7-1 behind an 11-hit attack while they held Ramapo to seven hits.

Scarlet Raiders scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first to get on the board before Ramapo scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first. Caitlin Smith drilled a line drive single to center field plating Jaclyn Lima cutting the score 1-2.

Rutgers Newark came back and scored three runs on three hits in the second inning extending their lead to 5-1. They added two runs in the sixth for a 7-1 lead as AJ Affholter singled home Sovak who reached on an error earlier in the inning. Monica Bagan then singled to center field allowing Affholter to come around and score.

Brianna Alicchio earned the win for the Scarlet Raiders in the complete game win. She struck out two and walked one while scattering seven hits.

Nicole Schneider (6-2) surrendered ten hits and seven runs, four earned while striking out two with no walks over 5.1 innings pitched. Harley Masiello worked the final 1.2 innings for Ramapo as she struck out two and surrendered one hit.

Smith was the lone Roadrunner to collect two hits (three at bats) with one RBI.

Ramapo returns to action when they host non-conference foe Albright College at Noon tomorrow.
