SOFTBALL FALLS TO NON-CONFERENCE RIVAL MORAVIAN ON THE ROAD

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bethlehem, PA:  The Moravian College softball team swept a non-conference double header today, 7-3 & 10-4 over Ramapo College. The Greyhounds improve to 25-9 while the Roadrunners fall to 23-7 overall.

Ramapo and Moravian were both ranked in the East Region in the first NCAA Division III Regional rankings of the year. The Roadrunners are currently fifth while the Greyhounds are ranked sixth.

The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead on Danielle Rothenberger's team leading ninth home run of the season in the first inning before Moravian tied the game in the third inning with an RBI single from Alyssa Fegely, 1-1.

Ramapo came right back in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead on Janet Brown's solo shot over the right center field fence, her third of the season. The Greyhounds came back to tie the game once again in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cassie Ernst hit a home run to right field, 2-2.

The Roadrunners almost got out of a jam in the fifth inning but with two outs an infield error allowed two runs to score for Moravian to take a, 4-2 lead before a double by Shannen Mohr knocked in another two runs to break the game open, 6-2.  The Greyhounds added another run in the sixth inning for the 7-2 lead. Ramapo would make things interesting in the seventh as Amanda Kent led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out before coming around to score on Harley Masiello's single to right field, 7-3. The Roadrunners would then load the bases with two outs before Moravian's Jenna Carmon induced a strikeout to end the game.

Starting pitcher Lauren Shaw (14-4) went to the distance in the loss as she struck out three and walked one. She gave up ten hits and seven runs scored, three earned.

Carmon (13-5) struck out five and walked five for Moravian while scattering seven hits and three earned runs.

In game two, Moravian would come away with a 10-3 victory over Ramapo. The Greyhounds led 3-0 after two innings of play before Ramapo got on the board in the top of the third inning. Lisa Orlando ripped an RBI single to left field allowing Jaclyn Lima to cross home plate. The Greyhounds pounded out seven hits in the bottom of the third inning including three doubles as they scored seven runs for a 10-1 lead.

Ramapo added two runs in the top of the fourth inning, 10-3. Kent smacked a double to left center field scoring Higgings from first base. Higgings led off the inning with a single up the middle. Kent came home on Tiffany Fischer's fielder's choice.

Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings until Ramapo tacked on one run in the seventh inning. Fischer doubled to center field before Taylor Boffalo laced a single into right field to pick up the RBI with two outs. Moravian would induce a ground out to end the and pick up the non-conference sweep, 10-4.

Nicole Schneider fell to 6-1 on the season for Ramapo as she struck out two. She gave up nine hits and eight runs scored over 2.1 innings of work. Harley Masiello came on in relief, striking out two and scattering four hits in 2.2 innings while Erica Fisher finished the game for the Roadrunners in the sixth. Fisher gave up one hit and one walk in the final inning.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday in a key NJAC match-up with Rutgers Newark University at 1:00 PM.
